Why Not Play Scout: Suggest Possible New Signings !!!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Great clips, Ram ... thx for sharing them ... yeah, Nakamura does look great, and can probably play on the left ... his pace may be in question though.

Galasso/Ebou-cant-defend/Gus,

Remember, we are supposed to be playing scout ... My selections were spur of the moment, and may not be to everyone's agreement .. and believe me, I do see your points of view.

Whats missing in your posts are your own choices ... realistically attainable coices of potential acquisitions. Any suggestions ?

UFG, like you it makes me want to weep to see useless teams like bolton, blackburn, even watford and sheffield united actually looking forward to play us .. and with the conviction that they are equipped to take points of us.

When play these tossers, you actually see the mindset they come with: to kick our players sillyand generally bully them. So, toughness is not a quality to be sneered at.

Good morning everybody!!

Ive just woken up and thought I was still dreaming (or having a nightmare) when I saw some of the names on here mentioned ! I know everybody on here is entitled to their own opinion but

Robbie Fowler - old and past it
Marlon Harewood - not so old and never had it !

I thought I had it bad as a kid when we signed Ray Hankin and John Hawley !! I wouldnt mind seeing SWP at Arsenal but I cant see Chelsea selling him to us.

Please nobody ever mention Kieron Dyer, Lee Bowyer , Craig Bellamy or anyone else like that!!!

how about Riccardo Montolivo from Fiorentina? he's a natural wide man, not a converted CM like Rosicky and No-End-Product number 13, and he could be available for about £8-10M.

So you didn't like my Jaws suggestion??

Anyway, I did mate - I think on page 1 you will see. But I will re-iterate and expand now:

Arjen Robben
-

Pros - One of the best wide men around. Capable of getting in crosses and beating his man. Technically sound.

Cons - Falls over. Injury prone.

Dimitar Berbatov

Pros - Looks like a good touch, nice technique and eye for goal. Good link between midfield and attack

Cons - One season wonder. Looks one paced. Looks like not this season.

As for realistic or whatever criteria - Robben looks like being edged out by Malouda. And did any club really test spurs regarding Berbatov? And if spurs don't do anything this season then he's up for grabs.

These are players who would be good enough and would have been worth asking about. Ferguson - Cantona. Why are we not unsettling anyone, why are we always the unsettlees? (just invented new word - prize please)

Mr Need-Steel

The fact is that most of our realistic targets have slipped through our fingers due to our boards lack of commitment to the current squad and season!

Ribery, Malouda and Babel were all names mentioned who would have helped with our obvious lack of pace wide. All three used to be realistic targets! The above are all quality players who are in the global view of football due to their ability! People all over Europe have taken an interest in where these players have gone!

Im not sure Mr Van Hogarden in Rotterdam has taken an interest in Kevin Nolan's future !

The fact is that apart from the few superstars like Zidane and Ronaldo in his pomp any player was a realistic target for Arsenal a couple of years ago! Not quite the smae now is it! We all want to go shopping in Harrods and although we are not in Oxfam yet we are being forced to shop somewhere around the middle ground. Is this good enough? Not for me! If we want to have the same grandeur and style we displayed as the Invincibles then we have to pay!

Sagna's and polish goalkeepers with a bit of a reputation wont win you anything!

Im sorry but I thought Arsenal FC was big enough to realistically attract the most talented players in the world!

Sorry Im still laughing though at Robbie Fowler!

Me too Gus !

But I do admit to being a bit pissed off at missing Ribery . He could have been the man . If we didnt want him or want him at thay price or he had no ambition and wanted to play in a league thats not as challenging as our I dont know but its still a gutter for me.

Here here, Mr Gus ... OK, I repent from my wayward ways ... :P

You are absolutely right, we should be able to be aiming for the first tier of players, not the middle rank. Its like sub-consciously, one has accepted the reality of our financial disposition, and generally approach this topic with that thought embellished in my mind ...

I think we need to get a few things straight here ...

How many "top-tier" players has AW ever signed ?!?! ... I think that tells us one or two things about the way the manager likes to operate as opposed to any lack of financial support from the board.

It seems to me AW has a vision, he's building his next great side. The Unbeatables were great and we were privileged to watch them but comparisons are unfair. They were a team at their peak, fabulous flair but could mix it if need be.
This side has bags of potential but is light on superstars, nothing too wrong with that should they show they are able to compete.
There are too many variables to predict how we will fair this season, we all want to close that 20 point gap but patience may be needed and I feel the manager deserves that.

Well there are a few who we could buy, dont think we will as they may be a bit to expensive.

A winger - Jesus Navas - quality player for the past three years in Spain and looks even better when playing the big teams in that league.
A centre back - Juan - hes unhappy and looked solid in the Copa America

I dont think we need another striker, I think we need to sign more than one winger and Navas would be my first choice after that I agree with Fabregas_is_my_hero, Montolivo is a good player, my only problem is I dont think he would be strong enough for some of the defenders in the Prem.
