Mikael Silvestre

well that's surprise... One thing to consider: would you pay 750K for manure's playbook and all thier player's weekness'? Well we currently have our inside man on all things manure for 750k and solid defender... (when not injured)....

It really is a bizare signing in terms of being completley out of the blue, I can't remember any other signing in recent years comparing tbh

Btw, who cares who he palyed for in the past? he's Arsenal now and thats all that matters. I just care for what he will do for us not what he did for them.

Someone asked would he have chosen to come to us if he was a first team player? well no, but who would if your playing regularly for United?. Gallas joined us because he fell out with Chelsea, and if Cole hadn't gone the other way he probably wouldn't have signed for us if truth be told as he would have had big offers from other clubs. Sol chose us yes, but the reasons for him doing so probably revolved around the money not because we were Arsenal. (btw as much as Sol was quality for us, I can never full respect the man. Imagine if that was Adams doing what he did the other way at his peak)

My gob has never been so smacked. Want to see hwere the boss sees him in the pecking order but he is unlikely to have come just to be a bench warmer. All my Utd mates are wetting thmselves (cos they think it is funny).

Dunno mate, having viewed a lot of the United fans responses many see this as something of a bad move i.e. Fergie weakening there squad and many seem to have liked the guy and wanted him to have a Testimonial. United fans I know we'll probably give it the big one as well, but then again they'ld do that if we signed Rooney, its in fans nature to. I' know I always do it when we sell players.
Ah well, lets see if they're laughing when he cracks one in at OT in the final minute to win us the game!!! (we can dream can't we!)

I have it on good authority, that Silvestre has been signed to be our experienced, ball winning midfielder that we've been craving for! :?

ok...that's a complete lie, but imagine if that's true..after all, he hasn't joined us to rot in the reserves, so...

Did Arsene sign him just to give us the big name/experienced player we have all been asking for?

If he's not good enough for ManU, then he's not good enough for Arsenal.

Will he stay fit?

Will his heart be in it?

I have serious doubts.

Chamions League Semi-Final 2nd leg and we are winning on the away goal rule with ten minutes to go and Kolo gets injured and cannot continue! You look to your bench and who would you want there.....Senderos, Song or Silvestre?

Don't need to tell you my choice do I!
Good point. That's a point I made back on my thread "The Grimandi Theory" in the spring.

I am a bit baffled by the actual choice of an injury prone Silvestre. Yet I am happy with adding a couple of experienced utility players to the squad, who will be happy with 25 appearances a season, and offer experience and a cool head...players like Garde, Grimandi, Platt etc.

As long as they are IN ADDITION to a top notch defensive midfielder, rather than instead of!

Just looked Gunnerblog up, and I'll certainly give it a go. I've only been aware of ANR and YoungGuns since I joined this forum in March...and I think both of them are great little blogs...but always room for one more in my daily routine

That's true. I used to read a lot more Arsenal blogs, but I keep it to the main four, plus the reserve/youth ones from time to time.

Glad you like it, I find it the most reliable in terms of accuracy.

I do also check newsnow.co.uk's Arsenal page (it updates every five minutes)...mainly just to look at the headlines to see if anyone has picked up on something exclusive or unusual.

I think people are harsh slating his signing he will do well for us, I dont mind him as a player and maybe people should give him a chance before slating him.

Simple facts are, quality player, bags of experience, great addition to the squad. Anyone who says otherwise doesnt know much about football.

Wenger doesnt have many over 30's, but the ones he does keep he manages to keep fit and prolongs their career. If he stays fit, i can see him with us for a good 4-5 seasons.

Well done AW

As for being the signing he mentioned, doubt that Silvestre is it, given the hasty/last minute nature of the transfer and the obvious fact that we need a DM. Only surprise to me is that Fergie allowed him to join us.

The flip side to that mate is that Andy Cole wasn't good enough for us but done rather well with Man Yoo!
