If you take Arsene Wenger at his word, we won't be signing anyone else - especially for the first-team squad.
Now I admire, respect and trust Arsene Wenger, I really do. Yet, when he comes out and says we have enough cover out wide, I wonder whether he is slowly turning senile!
We all know that neither Rosicky or Hleb are natural wingers, and the only player that remotely is - Theo Walcott - Wenger plans to convert into a striker!!
As for our competitors strengthening their squads by making some signings, Arsene has again repeated the mantra that 'you can only put 11 players on the pitch'. Bloody hell!! Doesn't he realise that the game has moved on in the last couple of years and most teams need to have quality replacements and competition for places?
If Arsenal get anything like the same amount of injuries that we suffered last year, I don't know how we will cope. The squad simply isn't strong enough in quality or depth, in my opinion.
Yes, I agree we can beat anybody on our day - as we showed last season - but we can also lose to anybody on one of our 'not-so-good' days, like we also proved last season.
I admire those of you that keep writing in saying 'don't worry, Arsene Knows'. I use to be a member of that club. However, I have to be honest and say that after reading Wenger's recent comments, I am really, really concerned for this season.

Im absolutely with you ECD.
Arsene Wenger is a fantastic manager who we have a lot to be grateful for. Now in no way am I saying he is past his best and we need to look elsewhere beofre you start that nonsense!
However what I am saying is that amongst the small sane contingent on here it is generally agreed that Arsene has made mistakes in the sale of players (Bobby to early, Edu etc). Its also accepted that some of the players he has bought to our club have not been what we hoped and I dont need to name these!
Why though will people not admit that Arsene has also made mistakes with the players he has not signed? Last year it was so so obvious we missed pace wide! Whoever played there apart from Theo highlighted our need for this time and time again. Now we was all excited in June as surely we was going to sign a class winger such as Ribery, who we had been linked with forever or maybe Babel or Maouda! Nope wrong!
What we got is the joy of the thought of Eboue playing wide right for us this season! This guy makes Arjen Robben look a war hero! He cannot cross his legs let alone the ball and we are not going to suggets hes going to get us 15 goals this season are we! Why its good enough for us this season but was not last season when Hoyte could have played behind African Warrior (ahem) I do not know!
The long and the short of it is Arsene has missed a trick this summer! There was players to be had that I think were vlue for money that could have bought us an attacking dimension we lack. Im not a mug who wants us to be linked with any "name" available just because he is rated at £30 million! I do however know as do most of you that players that could have improved our side have slipped through the net. Arsene has stated he would only buy players that could help us win the league! Hmmm! He also said even before the sale of Henry and Fred that he wanted a "super super" class player to come in so the cash must have been there! So whats happened? Have we fucked up in negotiations? Were we to tight or simply to late? Most concerning is do players not see Arsenal anymore as one of the clubs to join? Has our kudos along with Wenger's been damaged beyond repair?
Only time and the lack of a fucking winger and proven centre forward will tell!

I fear it might be that the the super super players do not want to sign, now that we have finished 4th twice and lost henry, and Pires.
Most of the Super Super players are allready at big European clubs.
The young dutch player, (not that we need another young unproven striker) was quoted as saying he wanted to stay in holland for another year when being linked to AFC, but suddenly he signs for Liverpool.

I can see the headlines already, "Wing wizard Eboue fires Gunners to title"
My tongue is firmly in my cheek and am starting to get a tad worried
Bernie can build a Grand Prix circuit around the Grove if it gets money in, but Arsene would even spend it I have to wonder
I love to see youth get a chance but " yill no win anythun wae kids" as someone once said - wrongly!!!

Well said ECD and Gus
People seem to forget when we sold Henry we sold one of the worlds best players who can guarantee 30 goals a season plus numerous assists. As we learned when we sold Pires it is really hard to replace world class players.
I do trust Arsene but he is taking a huge gamble putting all his faith in youth. The lack of experience is worrying. For the last two seasons we have struggled in the league, 4th place is not good enough. But can you see us closing the gap when our rivals have strenghtened their squads. The lack of cover at the back is frightening.
When we moved to the new stadium Wenger said the bigger pitch would help us.Then plays Rosicky and Helb out wide when both of them cut inside all the time.I dont want to see that headless chicken Helb playing on the wing next season. We missed out on Ribery ad Babel who would have fitted the bill.Does Arsense have faith to start the season with Theo? And dont even go there about Eboue(best actor 2007) playing on the wing. The man just hasn"t got a brain.
This season we are likely to make £50m from T.V and the C.L why aren"t we spending some of that money on signing some "Super" players.

Arsene Wenger is a very very loyal person and would never say anything negative about anybody he has ever worked with. However the time is now upon us when, in my opinion, he needs to seperate himself from the board over the farcical performance in the transfer market over the last 2 or 3 years. If there is no money in the kitty then he has to step up & say so when the wonderful board that we have keep saying shite about the abundance of funds available because as things stand Arsene's credibility and judgement is getting seriously questioned. If however Wenger has planty of funds available and is refusing to use it then we really need to consider the possibility that his tenure should come to an end. This man has revolutionosed both our club and the game in england in general but if he really believes what he is saying about our squad then he needs to go to specsavers...and fast.
My own theory is that it is far more likely to be a lack of funds that is our problem at the moment but it frustrates the shit out of me when promises are made (both to the fans and players) that we are a big club capable of signing big players and will be in there battling to do so. An over-eagerness to sell off our players on the cheap, an over-reluctance to purchase quality players when they become available suggests a total lack of funds and in my world if it looks like a dog & barks like a dog then is sure as hell is a f*cking dog.

Arsene has never realy spent big, but if there is any season that I thought he would have, it would have been this season.
And even if the did not spend big I expected more than two players to come in.
I wonder if he is planning to sign people in the mid season transfer market, to pick up unsetlled players or something (it obviously might be too late by then)
on a more serious note than my Fowler comment, the Icelandic striker at Barca would be good buy to fill a gap in the squad I have allways thought him a good technical player.
