IMO Theo is a bit of a confidence player. I think he needs a good run in the side, let the lad know he's first choice, offer it up to him and I feel he will deliver. He's shy off the pitch to a certain extent and I think he probably needs a confidence boost on it. Getting dropped after a good performance can really mess up a young player's mind and performance. I hope he makes it, because he seems like a decent, genuine lad.

spot on, once theo scores a couple of goals this season i think you will see his confidence grow, BTW has anyone noticed Eboue constantly urging him on and giving him advice, even when he's on the bench and Theo's playing, could be a future Arsenal manager in the making:twisted:

Galasso - you say that because Theo is in first team squad he should be good enough, but the likes of Randall, Gavin Hoyte and Lansbury are in the squad too. They are too good for the reserves, but not yet good enough to start for the first team.
Better to have them train and learn with the first team, than stagnate in the reserves.

I think you know Quartz that my reference to Theo is that he will play a substantial part in those main competitions whereas the others will not - i.e they will play Carling Cup. Therefore expectations are not the same and are indeed being led by our own manager who thinks he's needs to show progression.

I don't say he should be good enough I say that he will be judged because he is now a player who will take part in major games - and it is fair to judge him on those games. This is AW's decision.

One other point is that I bet Theo would look a lot better, if the other three midfielders were Vieira, Cesc and Pires, and the forwards were Bergkamp and Henry.

I agree but Theo, like all the other young players will have to grow up faster than those that may have come through at that time. Again, no-one forced us to have so many unproven and question arousing players but that's where we are.

I am not getting on Theo's back - I like him as a young man, I think he will be an excellent striker at some stage but it is right to look at his development and judge performances and his contribution to the team effort critically.

hes very young still - some players mature more phsicially at 21 to cope with PL defenders

what worrying though how easily is confidence seems to be knocked

he needs to be like whishire and be fearless - go for it !!

i think he might be worried of making mistakes too much

my patience is running on poor theo its time he stood up and made a name for himself if we had went on to beat liverpool last year he might be a different player today

Fact: Walcott is 19.

Do any of us expect as much from Jay Simpson (same age ,same positions) as we do from Walcott? NO.

When Walcott is 21, he will start proper strength training at Arsenal.
Wenger does not let the under 21's do much of this work, as they are still growing.

Let us judge Walcott in the 2010-2011 season, when he will have a stronger physique and greater sped.

He will still only be 21!

Fact is he is a member of the first team squad and he will be judged as such. If he isn't strong enough to play week in week out then don't play him.

If he does play, then he deserves judgment based upon his performances.

It would be a different story if he had come into the side in 2003 but he didn't and AW has chosen to have such a young squad nobody else.

And Jay Simpson I am sure is not recognised as having the talent that Walcott does so nobody would expect anything like that from him.

lord o' mercy, that's the flipping point. Simpson isn't good enough to get into the first XI and Theo Walcott is!!!! I really don't understand this lack of patience, we might of beaten Liverpool, we might of won the league, might might might!!! Take a reality check, please. Theo didn't lose us the liverpool match, he won us the Milan game, he didn't lose us the Birmingham game, he scored twice and stepped up when everyone else wilted. The boy has bottle. People only looking for faults, it's so boring. UP THE GUNNERS!

where did you get the part about blaming theo for the liverpool game? thats not whats been said. he is a first team player now so the whole age thing cannot be an excuse. why im losing patience is because he is making the same mistakes he was making last year and i'm not looking for faults i was delighted to see him skin players at liverpool and score two great goals against brum but way can he not produce the good on a more regular basis

I know that wasn't said. I just don't feel that this level of scrutiny is particularly constructive or helpful to the boy, and YES, he is a boy. He isn't even fully developed and yet comments just seem to glide off the tongue so easily. Your impatience is inconsequential, if I may be so bold!

I don't think this has got anything to do with Walcott, Arsene earmarked this lad out from a very early age, and he is supervising his career in a step by step fashion. People want to see Dr Wenger fail in this project, and then they can all sit back and chuckle knowingly.

I'm not a football pundit, I don't care about every fart played live on Sky, microanalysed in super slo-mo and droned on about ad infinitum. So excuse my somewhat emotional responses
