Is Wenger going down the same road as George Graham? (25/7)

Usual thread starter. I think we’d all love it if Arsene could beat the big money on a shoestring, but I am not sure how many of us really believe he can. If the money is there, surely he should get the chequebook out. George, in fairness, was hampered for a while by a very tight board, but at the very least, Arsene should spend what he has got in from transfers this summer, to say nothing of the £5m from January. I guess his argument is that we have two players for every position. But are they good enough? Not on the evidence of last season I’m afraid. But I hope I am wrong. :(

It's a complete myth that our squad isn't strong enough. Compared with who exactly. Chelsea have two players for each position, that has been Mourinho's target, and we have at least the same. This squad is filled with more quality than I've ever seen as a supporter. We've got umpteen excellent full backs, for example, Traore looks like an absolute world beater, no question, if any other team had him, they'd be falling over themselves to play him. Because he hasn't cost £10m, all the bloggers don't even include him as a squad player. If he'd cost £10m, they'd all be saying he's one of our world class players, but we need more, or something stupid like that. We've got 2 fantastic reserve central defenders in Senderos and Djourou, and personally, I don't know if I wouldn't prefer that combination to Toure / Gallas, a combination which many pundits call the best in the premiership. In central midfield, we have Denilson and Diaby on the bench, ON THE BENCH, these guys would walk into most teams, and I don't know of any premiership team who plays with a guy as talented as Diaby, Arsenal probably included! I don't care what any Arsenal fan says, there are no ball-playing midfielders more talented than Hleb and Rosicky, they're as good as it gets. If you want more conventionals wingers, that's a different story, and a different way of playing really. We don't have great backup for those two, but then players of this kind don't grow on trees. But Wenger goes for players that are adaptable, and in Walcott, Van Persie, Eboue and Eduardo, I expect he feels he has sufficient cover on the wings. Up front, we have five going for two places. What do the fans want, more signings up front? There are plenty of teams that would be happy to take Walcott and Bendtner off our hands, and that's what will have to happen if the fans want experience signed.

In short, the only area of the squad that could be better covered is the wings, and it wouldn't be surprising to see a further signing on that regard. But the fans don't just say the wings, they say the squad in general. If they're talking about the squad, they're talking about which players they want to replace, because there's no shortage in numbers.
