Eboue’s okay by me (23/8)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Eboue’s okay by me (23/8)

usual thread starter… have to say I wasn’t particularly impressed by Eboue in the centre v the Baggies. It was a bit of a lacklustre performance all round, only exceptions being Nasri, Clichy and possibly Denilson. Was Eboue quietly efficient? Just quiet, I’d say. Very difficult to judge from one game, but he doesn’t look a natural to me in that position.

I agree, gooner.ed. It seems because Eboue didn't have his usual ineffective game out wide, his performance against WBA has been elevated to a level unjustified by his actual display and effectiveness on the day. :? This was WBA people, not fecking Man United or Real Madrid!! :banghead:

So he made a couple of tackles - although none you could consider crucial; ran a little bit and had a few shots (all of which were piss-poor). Suddenly Eboue is the replacement for Gilberto, or - even more comically - the new Roy Keane!!

Finally, the author of the piece doesn't do himself any favours when he comes out with comments like this: "The Doom Mongers Of the Emirates can stick their heads up their own **** for all I care as there isn’t much wrong with the team." Given some of his rose-tinted opinions and laughable comparisons, if anyone has their head up their arse, it's most definately the author!!

??? We played ay home to West Brom!! And Mr Eboue still looked decidely average. Can only assume Ahsan that you don't watch much football or that you were pissed when you wrote your article.

Having just endured the Fulham debacle we have yet more evidence as to why Eboue should not be playing for Arsenal.

Well, I wonder if the author of this article was keeping an eye on proceedings at Craven Cottage today. If so, I wonder if he's reconsidering his ridiculous view that not only will Eboue be an adequate replacement for Gilberto, but will in fact (wait for it....) be our Roy keane!

You my friend, have not got a clue. Last weeks performance against West Brom wasn't even that great! we were at home, against a newly promoted team, inwhich we dominated to such an extent that both Denilson and Eboue had time to amble around midfield and pick their pass at leisure...surely you can see that it is in the away games against tough opposition that will determine whether Eboue is good enough to be our midfield enforcer...not a relative stroll on a sunny afternoon at home against West feckin Brom

I'll assume you were under the influence when you wrote this article, but the cheek to have a pop at the "doom mongers" and then have the audacity to write an article that makes a mockery of the "rose tinted brigade" is baffling.

If this article represents rose tinted, or "optimistic", then give me doom and gloom any day

Okay that performance was crap, seen it on MOTD. I think its fair to say no one played well at all for us and now we're staring down the barrel of going behind all of the big four early on, which is never good at the start of the season for Arsenal considering squad depth.
If there are any positives I'd say that Liverpool and Man U (minus Ronaldo) have looked unconvincing. Having said that Liverpool have won 2/2 underlining their ability to grind out results unlike us :(
But Fabregas returns next week which is always a good thing, along with our new mid, hopefully Alonso (probably Inler).
Twente will be a taster for Newcastle next weekend who are on great form and I think we should wait until that match versus Shteve McClaren before we start assuming results against the toon.
There are still 36 matches left so I don't think our bid for silverware is quite over yet. If we perform like this for those remaining games though its mid-table.
Things can only get better (cue injuries for our whole starting XI!)

mate liverpool haven't proved they can grindf out results whilst not playing well after 2 games of doing so. if they are regularly poor up until chsitmas and still in contention then you can say that- but if liverpool play poorly and draw their next 2 games then it undoes what you said only 4 games into the season.

let's save the big claims until a bit further down the line- equally those who say we played awful today we have no hope of anything. calm down and get some perspective, it was a shit performance but that happens, all we can do is swallow it and see how we're doing a few games from now when we can get a slightly better idea about how well we've started the league. i mean if we win the next 6 in a row, we've had a good start to the season regardless of the fulham game, so let's not make big claims until we've got a more realistic chance of predicting eh

Eboue is an option in central midfield only because we lack the top notch ball winner we so badly need.

He gives balance to a midfield with a lot of passing players but not enough ball winners.

For me, really, Eboue should be the back up for Sagna.

To be honest, every time he's in the line up, every time he receives the ball, everytime he forages through the midfield, I desperately hope that Eboue will silence his detractors, with an accurate pass, a shot on target, anything! But it just doesn't happen. He may not look quite the disaster he was last season but that's because the whole team is underperforming now.

Eboue's already had too many chances - and even kids like Wilshere and Ramsey are more deserving following their pre-season performances.

As for being the next Roy Keane...you mean retired and Sunderland manager? :blah:
