Perspective after the first weekend…

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Perspective

Post by del75 »

We are lucky that Man Utd are only a point ahead of us, and it is unlikely (I hope) that we will perform as poorly as we did on saturday again!

BUT...

Gallas does not and never will posses the qualities required to be captain.
Our midfield is to lightweight, literally - even with Cesc.
We are putting far to much pressure on Cesc to perform by not strengthening the squad with experienced players, we need quality signings like we had last year with Eduardo and Sagna, but in the Midfield and Central defence.

Yes it's early doors, but we have already lost to a team we should have beaten, and it was in a London derby.

As a Gooner it's natural to be pessimistic, but this squad has really got me worried. Thank God Sp*rs are even worse! :barscarf:

We have strengthened the squad players, but have weakened the first team.

We will not be relegated, but NEED a decent defensive midfielder, or two, and to sort out central defence, or else we might not finish fourth.

That is the stark reality.

yes, Arsenal have problems, but what of our neighbours in N17? A lot of money has been spent, but there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of a defence. Do you reckon Ramos’ job is safe? September is a traditional month for them to get the boot at the Lane. I could see them making a move for Mark Hughes if things behind the scenes at Man City get ugly.

You are a hardcore driver Gooner.Ed...non stop Devon to London..hope you had a packet of Starburst for company!

Spurs have bought in all the wrong positions.

They need a tackling midfielder, and a left winger, and a centre back.

So what do they do?

They move Bale to left wing thereby leaving left back weakened.

They buy lightweight Modric who is a good passing midfielder, but cannot get stuck in.
Next to him they have a large choice of mediocrity.

They spend a fortune on Bentley who is slightly above average. He is not a patch on Robbie Keane.

They fail to sign a centre back who is not just one heavy knock away from re curring injury.

Their star striker goes off and sulks!

Though if they sign Arshavin that is a decent enough replacement, though not like for like in terms of playing style as he creates more than he scores. With Bent as a target man, I would have thought they needed another goal greedy striker rather than a half striker.

Bad as it seems for us, we are well well better off than our inept neighbours.
