As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Wenger on our rivals being linked with the likes of Robinho etc: The names do not impress me. What is impressive for me is the attitude, the quality.
I could agree with that if it wasnt for the fact that a) if attitude is so impressive to Wenger then he should really have been sure that the players were focussed and up for that match on Saturday, b) assuming he did his part and the players just let him down he should have rectified this at half-time and made sure that they were up for it in the 2nd half and c) assuming he did that and again the players let him down he should see that the attitude of some (too many) of our players isnt good enough for a club like ours and go about changing that asap!
"No names, no news"
"We do not have to worry about many new players, we have a strong squad. It is up to us as a team to show personality, belief and strengths in the squad to make the difference. If we can find one other we will add him, if we do not we will not limit our ambitions because of that."
So yeah, don't hold your breath and queue here for Lethal's freefall cliff ride, me first, me first..........
If his latest comments are accurate that we are no nearer a signing then what happened between the CL first leg and today ?. Of course he will publicly say that signings aren't always the answer BUT given his statements after the first leg then clearly he thinks this time they will be. Is it wenger not being able to make up his mind over the player he wants or is the club not backing him with the money ? The club and wenger seem to be united that money is available. So the conclusion must be that wenger is not incisive enough to go and do the deal. Why ? Has his obsession with the youngsters got the point of blinding him to the realities. In the past he was happy to invest in experience eg Overmars, Petit, Henry, Grimandi, Pires, Wiltord, Silva so why not now when the team is desperate for reinforcements ? Isn't it about time that him and the club stop settling for being third or fourth and had aspirations of being the best ? Good football is nice for entertainment...to a point...but 20 passes in the middle third of the pitch loses its attraction after a while. After all the object of the game is score more goals than the opponent not make more passes. We are now in danger of becoming the next Liverpool and getting further and further away from winning the league again. Lets not fool ourselves, last year we had a great start but once the chips were down we fell apart and it was only the early season points that gave the season a good overall perspective because the second half was shite. It is now looking to me that wenger has run out of steam and is actually hiding behind the kids theme. If we do not win anything again this year then sadly i think its time he moved upstairs and the club bought in a new manager with some new ideas to build on the superb advances of the last 12 years..
