There may be trouble ahead… (23/7)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

MK Gould,

I agree almost totally with what you wrote above, although I accept that Cus and others may object to the smoking and drinking bit. That's fine by me - I'm becoming used to not having my 4 ciggies per half because of the worry and stress. Mind you, my ticker is a hell of a lot weaker!!

Now what do you think the chances are of Redaction bringing up those very points with the club on behalf of the fans? Probably none at all. :x

I think it's good to not have booze taken into the stands as people drink before the game and during half time and it only takes a few two pint tommys to start some trouble, at least there would be a 45 minute gap during play to brake up continuous drinking.

Again the smoking thing is problem with the seats, on a terrace you could just move away from it, but with seats you're stuck.

Didn't adam ant once sing a song about this??

I've never smoked, so don't mind that rule. I would like to be able to drink at my seat though. Can't see what the objection is when people can get tanked up until just before kick off - and then top up at half time. My half time pint is probably the only one I'll manage during the day, so would be nice to have time to enjoy it!

Again the gut next to me was drinking his special coffee
Just put a flask in your pocket & you should be alright
If we're paying so & so to watch a game of football we ain't we allowed to bring our own drink & food
I got away with my pack lunch yesterday even though they searched my bag which they only told me to take the lid of my water bottle, who do they think we are Chelsea fans

I am, by nature, mean. I rarely buy anything when we are out - prefer to bring assorted sandwiches, drinks, crisps & sweets to the grove. If I'm feeling flush then we'll have a bag of chips - outside the ground! I'm always ready with the excuse of "the kids have alergies so we need to check out their food" but to date have never had to use it. The only problem I've had is bottles with lids, but I get round this by taking cartons. I do exactly the same thing at the cinema, theatre etc & have never been challenged.

I CAN!! 8) BUT IT'S GONNA COST YOU FOR ME TO GO THROUGH THE TROUBLE OF EXPLAINING IT TO YOU ALL!!

TO TELL THE TRUTH, PROBABLY AS MUCH AS 95% OF FOOTBALL WATCHERS WOULDN'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE OFF-SIDE RULE   - BUT DOES THAT REALLY MATTER?

BY THE WAY, I SET A NEW PERSONAL RECORD FOR GOING WITHOUT A WEST INDIAN CIGARETTE/SPLIFF TODAY WHILST AT THE GROUND!! :) 3 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES WITHOUT A PUFF!! :D MIND YOU, I'VE MADE UP FOR IT SINCE AND HAD ABOUT 10 IN THE PAST 3 HOURS

Most when explaining the off side rule make the mistake of saying that a player must be between you and the goal, when it's actually two.

It's usually the goalkeeper and the last defender, but if that goalie is up the other end of the pitch, there must still be two players.

I was also present during Arsenal's first ever Mexican wave.

Can it sink any lower than this?

They done a wave at the Bergkamp, Brazil & youth matches but never at any 1st team matches
So this is gonna start something new now i guess
But then again most people who went got tickets in GS which was a nice experience for fans that haven't been to the Drayton Park before plus there weren't that many season ticket holders so it may be a different story at the Fulham game

oooo don't smoke: I want to watch the football, I also have asthma, I want to watch the football without hacking my guts up, that means i don't someone smoking near me, can you honestly not do without for 45 minutes.

oooo don't drink: don't have a problem with that as long as you don't start anything, helpful hint; if you pour your beer into one of those paper cups for coca cola you can drink it in the stands through a straw without anyone being any the wiser.

oooo sit down: standing or sitting i don't mind either way, but i won't be a selfish crunt and stand if the person behind wants or needs to sit or someone behind them or someone behind them etc. it's an all seater stadium just like highbury and every other ground was since the early nineties, get over it.

oooo don't swear: absolutely fuckin' right i'll swear if i want to, they're just words they won't kill you if you don't like it you picked the wrong passtime, people get passionate in football matches.

young conservatives: let's get one thing straight, i hate the conservative party and everything it stands for but in a time of so much apathy i think that it is at least something that young people (such as myself) have some sort of political convictions (whatever warped twisted version of free market capitalism it may be) Anyone should be allowed to support the Arsenal, even young conservatives.

As for Hornby's anyone who has read fever pitch can see that the guy has been a dedicated gooner since childhood so lay off.

Nerds & offside rule: I think that in some ways parralels can be drawn between the offside rule and the pauli exclusion principle. the pauli exclusion principle states that two particles cannot occupy the same quantum state, but only particles of the fermion group obey this rule whereas bosons do not, like the pauli exclusion principle only applies to fermions the offside rule only applies to a player who does not have two players between him and the goal when he is in the other half of the pitch and is in active play.

not every day that you can crowbar particle physics into a discussion about football so when i saw the word nerd i took the opportunity and pounced upon it.
