To boo or not to boo (28/8)
http://www.onlinegooner.com/exclusive/index.php?id=720
usual thread starter… I think the one incidence that sticks in people’s minds recently is when adebayor chose to be greedy against west brom rather than pass to a very well-placed nasri. I do not agree with booing arsenal players either, but the greed (and the chance that it wasted) symbolised the player’s mindset in the summer. I hope to god he was taken to task by the manager for that piece of decision-making. A similar one – if not committed at St Andrews back in February - might have seen us playing this season as defending champions. Difficult one this, as it is an instance when the player needed telling like it is. And who else is going to tell him?

I totally agree that booing will not encourage the player or do anything positive for Arsenal as a team.
On this occasion (the WBA game) I did boo once at Greedycashwhore and I think I was fully entitled to!
Not because of a player getting too big for his ridiculous green boots and trying to engineer a move away and/or a new lucrative contract. Players come and players go I understand that. I also understand some players have more reputable agents than others.
I booed Adebayor for one reason only! His lack of integrity and respect towards the fans! The guy got caught out giving one statement in a TV interview only to give a completely contradictory statement in his next interview ten minutes later. To top this off when the summers saga came to an end the disrespectful tosser insulted our intelligence by saying he knew nothing about what had been going on all summer as he had his mobile turned off!
Oh really! Please and do me a favour!
You are here by default that is all and largely due to the fact the clubs you courted didn't fancy you as much as you did them. You would be nowhere near N5 now if they had made real efforts to sign you and came close to the values reported.
I won't boo you again but I will NEVER sing your name again no matter what you do. If you score I will cheer because Arsenal scored, end of story.
Just as an add on to this I really cannot believe that some are making a concious effort to sing this guys name already! He lied to you and then made a pathetic effort to rebond with us by kissing his badge. Surely you can see this act was false and rather desperate?
In the long run is it just as bad for the club to sing a players name who lied and tried to cheat us as it is to boo him?

Boo-ing Ade
I seem to remember a few years back a young player called Reyes looking to go to Real Madrid at every opportunity. I know its not exactly the same circumstances, but he seemed to receive a hell of a lot more support than Ade is at the minute. While Ade's an arsenal player we, as arsenal SUPPORTERS, should get behind him and the team. Nobody denefits out of booing our own players. its pathetic

i wont boo an arsenal player on the day and ade knows by now what the support thinks of his unwise attempts to engineer a move away in the summer,
but
its about time the fans took the club back and got more vocal and let these players know that it is a privilege to play for the arsenal and do your talking on the pitch

I agree that I will never sing his name, but I think the jeers have to stop now, he lied to us the club then went into media spin with dissapointed love and that was not what he was saying face to face, when it is obvious what he was trying to do and in the end he held the club to ransom and got his spundooley's. So for me it is no song but no jeers.
On the other hand I feel that people boo Eboue because it is the only way they can make their voice heard, they do not want him in their team, one assist no goals, cheating and the fact he has a horrible malicous side to him, makes booing the only way supporters can make their view felt, especially when AW compares him to Ray Parlour (please). In fact the more Wenger talks now the less anyone should listen.
Wish someone higher up would have gone above his head in the summer and bought Tony Adams in as his number 2 add some passion, learn the ropes and heaven forbid the defenders would have learnt something.

Players nowadays have a default setting- "whore". Most are there for the money and it seems the money only, and it has been proved over and over again at Arsenal. We have exceptional citizens at Arsenal, Clichy, Cesc, Theo, who buck the trend. But they are the exception to the rule. I find booing anyone in red & white embarrassing- they are on the pitch because the manager believes they are there to do their job. The next logical progression to booing players is booing the manager, and then we're no better than the toon.
Well, there's been quite a lot of talk on this forum recently about giving certain new members second chance...i just wonder if we should do that with Adebayor. As someone's said it earlier, he must have by now understood how his antics have affected supporters, in a negative way of course...it's up to him now IMO, but we must not close the doors to him completely, figuratively speaking...either that, or sell him to ManUre or Spurs for £20 million now and get Arshavin or Villa + we would have a perfect villain to jeer on for years to come

I've never been a massive fan of Ade, not least because of his appalling first touch, lack of a fundamental footballing brain and most importantly his profligacy in front of goal. I do happen to think however that, he is crucial to the way we play and his indefatigable hustling and bustling for the entire 90 minutes goes some way to atoning for his glaring deficiencies.
So to read during the close season that he had demanded TH14's wages was for me, absolutely outrageous. The constant quotes and misquotes from his agents and associates and from the man himself in the mass media showed a total lack of respect to gooners everywhere who had stood by him through thick and thin during his time at our GREAT CLUB.
Granted,we could all do with a pay hike but there are ways of doing so without alienating the very people who directly or indirectly facilitate that wage increase.
Ade got his wish eventually but a distinct lack of tact would have ensured that he has lost a place in the heart of most gooners and will have to live with the prospect of the ocassional booing from his own fans for as long as he wears the red and white.

Excellent article by Brian as usual. I am 99% against booing with a tiny 1% of me thinking that some of the modern players we have to put up with, occassionally deserve the odd cat-call.
In my 30 years I have never booed an Arsenal player but by God have I wanted to scream abuse at some of the young millionaires that turn up, collect £40,000 a week but don't seem to put their heart and soul into it and can sometimes walk off smiling after a defeat.
Us supporters would run through brick walls for Arsenal (or worse, suffer the crumbling transport system before and after matches!!) so some of the behaviour of modern players really grates on me.
Every player has a bad game and they should NEVER be booed just for that. But demanding a 100% pay rise, leaving for Barcelona (Pop. 3.1 million) because London is too busy or walking off at the end of an away match without applauding the fans (fans who won't have the luxury of a private jet or executive coach on the 200 mile journey home) has contributed to an ever widening gap between players and supporters.
Whilst I know it's not right, I understand the frustration felt by some fans and why they may feel that booing is the only way that they can express that frustration. As I said in an article in Gooner Issue 182 I'm surprised that players don't get a lot more stick from the terraces.
Sadly, with some of the new breed of fan at The Grove I think we may hear more of it this season if things don't go well.

Sorry is that some sort of wind up, your logic goes its wrong to boo a player for being a greedy money grabbing shit, but booing eboue because you dont like him thats okay - your a joke.u2bagooner wrote: On the other hand I feel that people boo Eboue because it is the only way they can make their voice heard, they do not want him in their team, one assist no goals, cheating and the fact he has a horrible malicous side to him, makes booing the only way supporters can make their view felt, especially when AW compares him to Ray Parlour (please). "The Dark Shite"
So you have this on the back page and then ask us to disscuss whether we should boo or not?
Been an avid reader since I got my season ticket last year but I can't understand at what point you thought that was a good idea?
A play on words is alright and funny at times but The Dark Knight thing wasn't funny and to be honest, whether you meant it or not, it was pretty damn racist!!
