People aren't crying...they're frustrated. Not frustrated because we want to be like Man City...but because we have several flaws in our squad, that minimal investment would help to rectify, and strangely Wenger has chosen not to.
These aren't bad times Southampton...the club has made is very clear that finance is available..it's just that Wenger has chosen not to spend it. We've made a profit again.
I'll support Arsenal as I always have...but I'm suprised we haven't signed a centre midfielder...really suprisef, and if I can't voice that on an Arsenal forum, then where?![]()
CAN YOU STILL DEFEND WENGER????
As I've said before, the 'finances are available' line is pretty hard to believe at times.
I can't see how a manager like Wenger cannot see we need a defensive midfield player, it just beggars belief. Sometimes you have to spend the money. Is Wenger that arrogant to believe he can simply 'develop' a team out of nothing? United did it with seasoned pros alongside the young guys, I mean we don;t even have a proper Captain for fuck sake. Its getting ridiculous. He's openly said we were a body short there and now hasn't made a move. It doesn't seem right to me. Why the hell we've sold Gilberto is this is the case, baffles me.
Big year for Arsene this, no more excuses. We've waited long enough for this team to deliver, a team he's been seemingly putting together since 2006, which has onyl challenged for the title once and fallen away due to injuries. Its not fair to ask these young lads to deliver a title. I rate Diaby as a player, yet we're expecting him to come in and dominate games like he did against Chelsea in the Carling Cup, and do this all the time. Its not fair on Denilson/Ramsey, to put them against Twente and expect them to gel. If anything Wenger is hurting the development of these players by not giving them support.
I'm not as pessemistic as some, I mean city may have spent big but they've only signed someone the same as Nasri. But I think Wenger really has to deliver something this year.
Btw, I've never bought into all this 'Arsene knows' bollocks, the fact we only signed Nelson Vivas after winning the league in 1998 ruined that one for me a long time ago!

I understand that, but when has Wenger never finished in the top 4?Sutch wrote:just im sick and tired of us hanging around 3rd and 4th is all, every season there's the worry of dropping out of the big four.tinpot lane wrote:I know you're frustrated and chatting allowed of shit, that deep down you don't believe.Sutch wrote:Emoticons, great argument.tinpot lane wrote:Sutch wrote: Exactly, I am really pissed off ATM as Arsene has chosen not to sign anyone (we think), and Jan seems a very long way off, and then he'll sign some feutus from Thailand. Let me ask you a question. AW says he has faith in the players he has. What makes you better qualified than the man that watches them every day in training to tell me we are getting "left behind"

I know, just always that worry like I said, all the teams below us strengthen while we weaken and sit by and watch citeh and spuds overtake us. those 2 have strengthened immensely, especially spuds, all we have done is signed an immense player in Nasri and I expect we'll throw Ramsey in at the deep end due to lack of depth in CM, and we can all see the writing on the wall apart from Arsene.tinpot lane wrote:I understand that, but when has Wenger never finished in the top 4?Sutch wrote:just im sick and tired of us hanging around 3rd and 4th is all, every season there's the worry of dropping out of the big four.tinpot lane wrote:I know you're frustrated and chatting allowed of shit, that deep down you don't believe.Sutch wrote:Emoticons, great argument.tinpot lane wrote:

You are doing well to defend your team SG, you should be proud of that, I think NBG is going a bit OTT, as was I earlier on. I apologise people.southampton gooner wrote:So I stand up and support my team when everyone else is slagging them off, and your reply is "why don't you fuck off and support Southampton"Natural Born Gooner wrote:For fucks sake you lot of glory hunting part time fans. Spurs have sold there two best srikers, and replaced them with an unproven russian and a 'young player' on loan. If anything spurs are weaker then they were last year, there squads reduced, Modrics looked off the pace, and Bentley is vastly overated.
City have signed one player today, a winger who is about the same as Nasri in terms of talent, apart from Nasri not being a fucking knobhead who threatens to strike. Plus he too is unproven in English football. SWP is there best signing, and bar him remember they lost 4-1 to Villa only a few weeks back.
Nobody is troubling that top 4 this year

Sorry bout that fella, it was suppose to be tongue in cheek, hence the emoticon. So I stand up and support my team when everyone else is slagging them off, and your reply is "why don't you fuck off and support Southampton"

We're all Gooners here.
Tensions are running high tonight, and we all want whats best for our team.
God, SG I hope u r right and prove me wrong if we go on an amazing run with one of our midfielders stepping upto the plate alongside Cesc, get Rosicky, Diaby & Eduardo (which will feel like a new signing) back and maybe buy someone in Jan.
Fingers crossed everyone comes back from International duty in one piece

G88ner do you remember the CC final in 2007?
The midfield we had that day out played Chelsea for the majority of the game. I'm not saying they're better or as good as Chelsea's midfield, but that they're capable of competing at a high level. However i am not to sure if they could compete on a consistant basis though.

This is an exciting opportunity for the likes of Diaby, Denilson and Song to step up and prove they are ready. They are all very talented young players, and Wenger has shown a great deal of faith in their ability.tinpot lane wrote:G88ner do you remember the CC final in 2007?

I for one, may have my reservations, but Wenger is an intelligent man, and obviously he's doing the best he can for Arsenal, so if - in his infinite wisdom - he thinks Diaby, Denilson and Song are ready to be genuine first teamers, then I'll offer them all my support, and hope Wenger is right.

Don't mistake spending money for strengthening. Spurs have lost Keane, Berba, Defoe; Got rid of half useful players like Malbranque and overspent on replacements like Bentley, still have the extremely crude Dawson in defence. I really don't see any major improvement there, if anything they are weaker than last season, a season at the beginning of which they boldly predicted they'd surpass Arsenal in the league table.Sutch wrote:...sit by and watch citeh and spuds overtake us. those 2 have strengthened immensely, especially spuds

I like everyone else here is disappointed. But having said that, I dont think we would have challenged for the title even if we had a brought in a couple of more players. Chelsea and United have superior squads and have more fire power than us. As far as the likes of Spurs and City goes, I dont believe either of them will challenge for 4th this season. Spurs with all their purchases, are already 5 points behind us after 3 games. I dont believe City have a squad strong enough to challenge for fourth this season, even though they bought Robinho (should we really be worried abt him?). Nothing is guaranteed in football but if we play to our potential for the majority of the season, we will finish in the top 4.
