For anyone who has experience with Dwarf Hamsters
For anyone who has experience with Dwarf Hamsters
Was downstairs about 10 minutes ago when two of my sisters' dwarf hamsters started fighting inside their cage, and I'm not talking about simple play fighting the bigger, bully one proper was having a right go at the smaller one probably for going on the wheel, eating food, having a drink etc. We seperated them for the time being, and the little one has cuts on his head and back, and this is not thefirst time these two have fought like that, every other time no blood has been drawn, and now I'm tired of them fighting, anyone have any suggestions for what I should d onext?
Cheers everyone, much appreciated.

I know, same story here, its all quiet then you hear a series of loud and very fast squeaks, and it can last for about 5 secodns sometimes, the pain must be horriblesolwaysharks wrote:my daughter has 2 dwarf syrian hamsters, they hate each other, brothers eh![]()
we had to buy another cage to keep the little fuckers apart, they were tearing lumps out of each other,it was bloodbath some days

my sister used to keep hamsters,i think most hamsters (including syrian) live alone in the wild so if kept together they will fight - often to the death... however dwarf hamsters are meant to be able to get on with each other but i really wouldnt advise you put them back together as rodents can be nasty bastards and you might find that one of them ends up getting killed - especially if they are male.
also, did you buy them at the same time? because i think it is also hard to introduce a new one where one has already lived there for some time.

We've got four actually, 2 girls and 2 boys, both sexes in different cages, and they don't know each other are there. The girl ones are fine, they rarely fight at all, get along just fine. The boy ones we got at the same time, they knew each other from their litter, the bully one is just a horrible bastard, constantly bullying the little one. This si the firts time they have drew blood, and they are dwarf campbells.Rowly wrote:my sister used to keep hamsters,i think most hamsters (including syrian) live alone in the wild so if kept together they will fight - often to the death... however dwarf hamsters are meant to be able to get on with each other but i really wouldnt advise you put them back together as rodents can be nasty bastards and you might find that one of them ends up getting killed - especially if they are male.

In a bowl melt about 2 ounces of butter, then add a teaspoon of cayenne pepper, a teaspoon of ground black pepper, one botle of tabasco sauce and mix well. Then skin both hamsters, discard the skin and place the hamsters in the bowl making sure that they get a good coating. Leave to marinade at room temperature for approximately one hour. Pre heat the oven to 175 celcius and place the hamsters on a wire baking rack and cook in the oven for approximately 25 minutes, turning once. Remove hamsters, leave them to cool for 5 minutes and then serve with a blue cheese sauce and sticks of celery...........Yum Yum.

Just read a website saying I should temporarily seperate them(which I have done) and the nwait for the wounds to heal and then slowly but surely re-introduce them to each other. Hopefully this will work. The Joy of Cesc wrote:They are supposed to get on with each other, as someone has said, but these obviously don't!
I think you're going to have to get another cage, and keep them apart for good, otherwise you're going to come down one morning and find one or both in bits.
Cheers for your advice people, much appreciatd, except you Wayno
