Appiah

Post by cricklewood-gooner »

Would gooners like to see Appiah added to the squad, as many fans believe that we are under staffed in central midfield... Or are people of the belief that he will only result in another body in the medical room. Keeping in mind Wenger has already showed us he is prepared to gamble on an a long term injured player as long as there is no transfer fee and hence less to lose if the player doesnt pay off, shown in his signing of bishoff?? He seems to be there for the taking, so would you have him???

I know we give Denilson, Song and Diaby a hard time, because they still have a lot to prove, but they aren't bad players.

Do we need Appiah? I don't know. It depends on whether he's better than what we already have. There's no point bringing him in if he isn't going to improve us, and the fact that he's still a free agent - as we approach mid-September - suggests that teams are unsure about him. Whether it's because of his health, or not, I don't know. But, on this one, I'll trust Wenger's judgement on the player.

If he's recovered from his injuries and illness, he'd be a very good recruit. But he'd need a while to get match-fit though - he said as much after the Libya v Ghana game, when he said he struggled to keep up with the might of the Libyan side. But his previous performances in the CL and for Ghana were definitely good enough to justify having him at The Grove.

Think I'd rather wait and hope we get the right player in january. I know alonso is not the enforcer we need in the middle of the park but with his agent saying yesterday that he wont rule out a move in january and with him also being the best midfielder we have been linked with in a while then I'd rather wait. Of course we will probably end up buying nobody in january either but you know me....always the optimist

Can I say that I'm not sure, don't know overmuch about him tbh only what has recently been discussed. Why is he still a free agent if he's that good would be my question

No.

I have not thought him good enough for us, even when he was fit.

Now that he has had injuries I am less keen on him.

He fell out with Fenerbahce big time over the treatment of a knee injury, which culminated in him getting blood clots in his leg without the problem being diagnosed by the club doctors. Appiah thought Fener then treated him shabbily. End result: contract terminated.

The only reason he's not been picked up before now is his injury, which he appears only now to be getting over. I would still prefer us tohave Alonso, but if he can make a full recovery from his injury Appiah is a quality player.

Wenger says no:
Arsène Wenger has dismissed speculation that Ghana captain Stephen Appiah could be heading to Emirates Stadium.

The 27-year-old central midfielder has been released by Fenerbahce and, as a free agent, is eligible to move outside of the transfer window.

Arsenal have been touted as a possible destination for Appiah but Wenger scotched those rumours at his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

When asked whether he was interested in Appiah, Wenger's reply was short and blunt. "No, we are not on the case," he said.

think appiah would fit in nicely, we need a defensive midfielder and he wasn't going to cost anything!

now there are rumors about Mineiro coming, he wouldn't cost anything but is 33 years old, nothing wrong about that but this is Arsenal! 33 is very old for us youngsters...
