Glory hunter accusations

Post by PiccadillyDreamer »

Is Anyone else here absolutly F**KING FED UP OF BEING CALLED A GLORY HUNTER  I seem to get it all the time mostly by retards who firmly belive that you should support your 'local' club no matter what your ties may be to Arsenal. i live in Croydon and support arsenal because my grandad supported them (his family lived round the corner from Highbury) like many of us I did not wake up one morning run my finger down the league table and say to myself "oh Arsenal are doing well I'll support them"
If one more person lectures me on why i shouldnt have been lucky enough to support the best team in the world i WILL set fire to him.
Any other gooners have any stories of glory hunting accusations? I would be glad to hear what you said back to them :)

I've been accused of being a glory hunter but never for supporting arsenal.

i pick up local teams everywhere i go. it started with Luton, not much glory there. then added stevenage and they did take newcastle to a replay once and in fact won something last year. i lived opposite griffin park for 2 years and Brentford became my local boys, i happened to see DJ campbell destroy sunderland and lee trundle fall on his fat ass too when we went top of league 1 a couple of years ago after beating swansea, now because i dont happen to go to the games anymore now i'm not in brentford i've had a few people call me a glory hunter!

i'll forever be arsenal. arsenal is my blood. i dont understand some of the things our foreign players have said recently. "oh i used to support psg until marseille started winning and then i supported them" (!) whats all that about?

i got called a glory fan by a chelsea supporter when arsenal beat them in the fa cup final 2002 funny he started going to watch chelsea the season befour last and all of a sudden has the kits and merchendise that say champions on it, which reminds me i better ask him if he has renewed his season ticket because when i last saw him he was thinking of giving it up

Like Rebel said you listen to a lot of shite here in Ireland but to be fair I dish out far far more than I take. I love getting into a battle with manure fans who have never even been to manchester let alone old trafford and I do not hesitate in telling them that. Even though I live in a typical gaa rural heartland my associations with "soccer" and more especially The Arsenal have always been known so nobody fucks with me on the gloryhunter lines 8) 8) 8)

I started work at one place in 1998, about two months after the 2nd double and one day after 'Arsenal won the World Cup'.

Asked which team I supported and when replied got the smug 'oh is this a recent thing?'.

My support started in 1984, during the 1979-87 mini drought, when the Spuds had won 2 FA Cups and a UEFA Cup, West Ham nearly won a title and even Watford were closer to success than Arsenal. In fact even QPR seemed to be in closer contention for top London club at some periods during this time.

I think that if you're within the home counties, you're within the London diaspora and have a right to support one of the London clubs. I think that with 13 league clubs anyone who doesn't support a London club within London and the Home Counties had better have a damn good excuse if they want to be spared the 'gloryhunter' tag.

I think anyone who did literally look at the table and decide on their team had better stand up and confess like they do at AA meetings.

Like Augie and Rebel my love of the "foreign Sport" by far outweighs any interest in gaa, especially the Gunners :D

The Manscumster fans here are really full of dung and I love declare my love for Wenger's men at all our local teams events

I hope to cross the pond soon and get to the Grove to cheer on the lads :P

i know people who stuck a pin in a roadmap and chose the nearest stadium to it for their team, i was also listening to 606 once when a vicar called in and asked alan green to suggest a club for him to support as he wanted to take up going to football games, he wanted a team in yorkshire as he had just been posted there, alan green suggested barnsley as leeds were too successful and he would probably be labelled a glory hunter, seems a better choice now, doesn't it?

My local team from when i was young is AFC Sudbury so enjoyed the games with Enfield Town last year!

Born in Romford, gave kids at school hassle for being glory hunting manure/scouse fans so had to choose local team, was straight choice between West Ham/Arsenal (spuds not even an option then!) and chose correctly!

I sometimes get accused of "gloryhunting" by my local teams fan  Southend Utd. I have no previoous connection to Arsenal, support us coz a guy sold me the wrong shirt in 1968 and I've never looked back for a second but that's another story. I did'nt have a clue about us at the time and at that stage we had'nt won a thing since 1953 so I could hardly be accused of glory hunting and believe me, during the mid 70s and early 80s there was certainly no gloryhunting to be had.
PS. The people who told me I'd got the "wrong" shirt were my mate and his dad both big spuds so that makes it an even better "mistake"
