who else could i possibly ask?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The answer is option 1.

Liam Brady use to love his chips and was always walking around with a bag of them in his hands when he was a skinny youngster at the club - thus the nickname Chippy!!

You really are a bunch of buffoons!

Liam Brady was an excellent carpenter and made several first team players furniture!

Hence the name " Chippy"!

bloody hell! i was half joking when i suggested it but this is getting to be a bit ridiculous. i'd much rather accept the suggestion from gus than the idea that one of or greatest ever players ate a greasy bag of chips before a game!

As I remember it you're half correct ECD.
He had a righteous passion for a bag of Fish 'n' Chips , hence Chippy.

Sounds a bit cooler than Fishy I suppose.

You certainly are correct.

I never saw him play, but I heard from my Dad he was great and would be better if he knew how to use his right foot.

And he was Irish too, Brady and the other Irish were the reason my dad began supporting Arsenal I'd guess. Maybe not though.

RaM , I think your dads being a bit harsh there mate,

Liam Brady was A bonafide GENIUS.

Him and Frank Stapleton were just awesome to watch sometimes.

Liam Brady was my hero and an outstanding player for Arsenal.

The guy could pass, cross, shoot and even tackle - that's how good he was!! In my honest opinion, between the period 1977 to around 1986, he was among the best 3 midfield players in the whole world!! 8)

The only pity is that he spent his peak years as a footballer abroad rather than at Highbury. :( The Arsenal Board at the time were very parsimonious and had a rigid wage structure in place, so wouldn't/couldn't pay him what he was worth or what a player of his ability deserved!!. :x
