There may be trouble ahead… (23/7)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

aaa) what do you mean by irony, i see nothing in the above post that could be construed as ironic.

bbb) unless he was lying in the book he went to plenty of away matches as a kid in the 70's. going to away matches is no longer an effective measure of how much of a fan you are, most people can barely afford all the home matches, does having less disposable income make you less of a fan? with views like that i think an application to join the young conservatives is in order.

333) 50% of the poulation used to smoke, that was before we knew about the cancer, it used to be that people had always beaten eachother up before and after matches and "take" the other end, times have changed. why the fuck should i be forced to breathe in that shit, if you want to suck on a cancer stick that's absolutely fine, but when in close proximity to others you're damaging their health too, i had to breathe that shit in for 14 years going to matches it was such a relief when they stopped it. I'm not a delicate flower i don't mind the drinking (i like a drink myself) and i take a very active part in the swearing i just don't want to get cancer, unlike the smokers i don't have a convenient filter to stop me breathing in the nastiest stuff.

444) slime? i can understand having a go at the club level etc. but actually calling other fans slime just because they choose to support the club in a different way than you, where's the fucking solidarity, the brotherhood with all gooners, how can you profess to be a real fan and then call your gooner brothers slime? Amazing things are being done in the field of genetics at the moment and one day all things will become possible, but for the moment a pork chop is an inanimate object and you will find nigh on impossible to educate one, harder by far than educating the witty urbane individual you find on this site.

and to IHH cheers for the compliment, i agree the offside rule is hardly high energy physics now is it?

Amazing

I'm being educated by someone who's asked a fellow poster if he's ever 'herd' of irony. I've certainly never 'herd' of irony, but I have 'heard' of irony before.
hornby is not a hardcore Arsenal fan hes a jonny come lately
who had never been to an away match prior to fever pitch .

I personally think he probably was an Arsenal fan in the days when it wasn't fashionable. It's not his fault a bunch of other 'Tarquins' and 'Harriots' needed a book like Fever Pitch in order to stop seeing football fans as sub-human scum.

And Anfield '89 was on a Friday evening, I bet a lot of people wouldn't have been able to get time off of work to get up there.

And many of those who did were stuck in traffic, hence the reason why the game was delayed by 15 minutes, through fears of a repeat of what happened in South Yorks a month earlier.
He stopped going during his uni years to watch cambridge !
I thought you, oh educated one would have known how cash strapped one gets in their uni days. Certainly not enough dosh to pop down to London on a frequent basis. And the fact that he popped down to watch some lower league action, shows to me that he had some interest in the game itself. If I can recall I don't think Cambridge were in a position to threaten Arsenal in the 70s or 80s or whenever Horby was an undergraduate.
I have asthma so what its outdoors, delicate flower !
People have always drunk at football ,if u dont like it leave
Oh educated one, sort your punctuation out. The above should read 'I have asthma, so what it's outdoors delicate flower!'.

So what it's outdoors? Now if this was standing on a terrace where people can move away from you I'd have some sympathy. As we're forced to sit next to someone like you for 90 mins, we cannot escape the plumes of smoke belching from you.

Are you so fucking ignorant and inconsiderate that you cannot see that not everyone else wants to breathe in your shit and have their clothes smelling of your fags.

And as for drinking at Football games, if you're as authentic and old skool a footie fan as you claim you'll know of the 1980 Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers, it's violent aftermath and the empty bottles left on the pitch afterwards, from fans bringing in crates of the stuff with them.

I know most fans can drink and behave themselves but there are a significant minority who can't. I think it's a good thing that something breaks up what would be probably five hours of continuous drinking. Most start their pre-match drinking at around 1-1.30pm and make way to the stadium at around 2.30pm, by which time they are buzzed but not steeming, this is how it should be.

And also, if people could buy their drinks at the bar and bring it to the seat, that would give the idiots another reason to get up during the game and block my view. Not in excitement at what's going on on the pitch but to stick more down their bloated fat greedy guts.

Personally I suspect this poster isn't for real. I reckon he's bookanengineer acting clandestinely, trying to create some barely literate, boorish, thick Joe pre-90 from 'when cave man ruled the terraces' in vengence after his torrid anal hammering on his 'It's not the 80s anymore' thread.

Cus,

If you look at his Post subject heading for that particular post, Herd starts with: Cus N Anfailed.

Makes me suspect that Mr. Herd is a spud in disguise to write that about Anfield '89 - unless of course, he was being ironic about U.F.G's responses to his posts!!

Either way, Mr.Herd has shown himself to be a bit of a silly cow, hasn't he?
