Physical + Skillful?

Post by RaM »

With a bit of recent talk on here concerning us needing a dominant physical player who can give the opposition a bit of a scare, I wondered are there many players going around who have the skill needed to play for us, as well as being able to play physical and not shirk from the likes of Bolton.

Can anyone suggest any?

I think I can think of some but I won't post them until I have a bit of evidence to support my case (just like someone asked for on another thread regarding Rosicky and Hleb :) )

Of course, but I mean in terms of desirable (even if unattainable) potential transfers.

Just out of interests sake, what do you all think is the most physical league in the world?

The premiership has always been known as a tough league for foreigners, as well as the speed of the game but also the physical nature in this country not sure if that impression has dumbed dpwn after the like of vieria and keane not playing here anymore.

Guttuso comes to mind, the Italian player. altough he is quite short, it does not seem to stop him.

But thier are not many hard players who can also pass well and have the kind of first touch needed to fit into our squad.

I think we got 4 players in the squad that would fit the description. Toure, Diaby, Adebayor and Bendtner. Fabregas can put himself about a bit as well, I'd say he's more of a physcicall player than Gilberto for example, and the older and stronger he gets the better he's gonna become when the going gets tough.

Even though we would never sign him, what do you guys think of David Carney from Sydney FC.

Ok Sydney FC usually = Joke, but this guy is actually quite a good player, how do I know? You could call Sydney my 'second team' what with them being close enough for me to go to matches.

This footage is two years old (Dwight Yorke is still playing for them) and I assure you his shooting has improved drastically, but here you see some good footwork and some physical play.

So what do you guys think?

this guy's a winger right?

Looking at the posts, I think everyone assumes you were taliking about a "centre" based player.

Thanks for video but he doesn't look anything special.

And we already have players who won up North last season. (Man U, Blackburn and Bolton) and can get stuck in (Rosicky and Hleb included). THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM. WE LOST TOO MANY POINTS AT HOME THROUGH POOR FINISHING AND BAD DECISION MAKING. BY EVERYONE.

This isn't directed at you RaM, just getting a little fucked off.

Oh ok thankyou for not directing the anger at me, but that post was a bit of a joke. You see, compared to the rest of the Sydney side, he is quite good, but the league in general is also very poor (but very physical).

It's entertaining enough, but they are really not a proper league as with EPL etc..

Although the league will be in FIFA 08 apparantly.

As for the content of your post, I agree with what you said, but it is also the points we dropped against WEAK teams. I.e West Ham at home, or draws/losses against the likes of Bolton, Newcastle, Reading.

We do well against the big teams, but struggle with the ones we should comprehensively defeat. Anyone ever heard the idea that teams drop to the level of lower teams when they play them (not intentionally) and naturally lift to their A-game against top opposition?

That's exactly what I'm saying regarding dropping points. And, because this is a relatively young and inexperienced side, they suffer from time to time.

As for teams dropping their level - there is something in that I think. But, some sports teams just anihilate whoever they are playing, shit or otherwise!!

What about Abdoulaye Faye from Bolton we was linked with him in january but nothing happend to be honest i don't know much about the player himself but have heard people say he is very strong so thats why i put his name forward

Martins is very strong for a forward and he is quick and skillfull i would like him playing along side with RvP i could be a powerfull partnership :D

Last but not least, shame we didn't get Yaya Toure :x them Spanish Barca B*stards got him, he would of been a good buy.

i can't remember who said it but someone said Arsenal was lightweight but i disagree because we have Toure, Gallas, Diarby, Gilberto and Cesc is a lot stronger now also up front RvP is strong, Adebayor and Bendtnar
