Wenger is happy with the forwards? - I'm bloody not!

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

he'll get in all he has to do is pass the citizenship test which means knowing stuff like the other number for the emergency services (118 118)

You mean it isn't 0208 366 0606 (the number of my local Pizza Hut)? Wow, maybe I should take a citizenship test!

Talking with some brummie fans and they say that bedtner is a class player but has a massive ego and thinks above himself. Granted that it might be easy to feel that way looking around you in their dressing room but if he starts that crap here he wont last long. I hope its incorrect cos after getting rid of 1 arrogant c*nt I'd hate to be lumbered with another. As I stated before I have serious doubts about bedtner making it but I'd also hate to see us sign martins - benni mccarthy would be better than him although neither would be on my top 3 wish list. In the last 2 weeks or so I have come right around to the idea of resigning anelka cos of all the possibilities out there his would require the least amount of tampering with the team pattern & style. Anyway we aint signing a striker it appears and unless we pull out our finger we wont get a top winger either. If that happens to be the case then there will be many a dis-satisfied gooner on this forum

And it would be a bloody big surprise after that 'penalty'!

I kid, I kid. I wish the lad all the luck in the world. I'm a patient kinda guy (God knows you've got to be these days to be a Gooner!). Got to say; I'm looking forward to seeing Eddie in action (providing he can get a passport from one of Si(y)lvinho's mates).
Why didn't he just come in via the Bilbao - Portsmouth ferry - like that investigative reporter for the BBC. She acquired something like 10 british passports in and around eastern europe, hopped on the ferry, then came into Portsmouth. They took her aside at control, asked a couple of routine questions, then the passport guy compliments her on her perfume and asks her about it! It was hilarious.

If you can't stop 'em, pull 'em!!

Eduardo obviously isn't trying hard enough!

Agree 100% have seen very little of him but I noticed that, very early on, and the Sky boys made a couple of sly references to the fact that he's not short on confidence, and I hope that's all it is but even if it's not it's pretty widely acknowledged that it was arrogance in a lot if not most of the great players in every sport were that gave them their edge, as long as it doesn't lead to problems in the dressing room and he bags a shitload of goals then ok!
BTW didn't know you were also from the Emerald Isle, there's a right wee squad of us on here 8)

Hill Wood get your cheque book out ?? There is more chance of bin laden popping in to the white house for a bit of lunch with bush. Haven't we already seen the evidence all summer that we have to sell to buy cos we have no intention of dusting off the cheque book, even though "there is plenty of money for Arsene to spend should he wish to do so" (copyright of Arsenal Football Club).

I still think anelka is more suitable than gudjohnson but andy johnson (a gooner) would also be a nice fit. I cannot quite fathom why we are still so quiet in the transfer market - i know some of you will say that this is arsene's style but we have less than 2 weeks to go before the season starts and I'd like to see any new signing have some time to "bed in" with his new team-mates before the big kick-off. I assume that we would all hope that arsene will at least buy 1 winger who is good enough to walk straight in to the team and if so wouldn't it be ideal to have him play in the ajax tournament this week to get familiar with our style ? I have a bad feeling that we are either going to buy nobody else or another young prospect that is not quite good enough for the 1st team yet.

Come on Arsene - This is killing some of us out here :!:

Fecking hell!! Are you sure? :? If that is your genuine opinion on Roy Keane as a footballer then I would have to doubt you ever watch football - or have only just started!!

Keane was more than just a 'thug' - although he did have an unpleasant side to him, I do admit. Keane was a box-to-box runner; he could pass as good as any midfielder; supported the forwards well and regularly, and set-up and scored a fair few goals as well. Oh, and he could defend and tackle!! Not always legitimately but certainly with passion and attitude. What more do you want from a player?

Remember, Arsenal almost bought him from Nottingham Forest when George Graham was manager but he chose Man Utd instead (because he supported them as a boy, I think).

It is only because he played for our biggest rivals at the time that some people have this opinion of him. If he had played for Arsenal, he would undoubtedly have become a fans hero - much like that other famous Irishman Paddy Vieira  - and I think a lot of gooner's opinion of him would be totally different.

Love him or loathe him, anyone that really knows their football would accept that Roy Keane was a tremendous player as well as a great leader - well, at Man Utd anyway (some of the Irish Gooners might disagree if I say Ireland as well, because of what happened in 2002!! ).

Sorry, no offence meant but anyone who says different doesn't really know what they are talking about!!

thats all i meant,, a good leader,, sometimes u need some1 like that,, adams,, viera were great leaders,, henry in my eyes not so,, sometimes u need some 2 grab a game by the scruff of the neck and roy keane was 1 of those,, yes he was a thug and not very skillfull but how many games did he pull his team up 2 win
I hated Roy as a player (But he was good) altho i have respect for him now as a Sunderland manager just take a look at what he has done for that club fair play to him. I think Sunderland will be a good team this season just hope they don't give us any trouble :D
ECD i said the same sort of just not so many words  yes Roy done things in his career that he will regret but also has won a lot of trophies and always played with passion, now at Sunderland he is doing a great job as a manager, you can't take that away from him.

can't wait to see Arsene's reaction to Keane when Sunderland visit the Grove

Roy Keane was a great player, and is a great person too.

Quick story:

My grandfather's friend is an optometrist in Galway, and a friend of Roy's. When Roy was last in town to help raise awareness for eye afflictions and whatnot, my Grandfather asked his friend to get Roy to give him a couple of signature's for myself and my brother.

When my grandfather met his friend again, he was told that Roy had done one better, and had given us a signed Irish jersey. :D

So I wrote a letter of thanks that was passed on. I did mention in it that I was an Arsenal fan though :D

But I wished him luck with his final matches for the Irish in World Cup qualifiers.

Well not exactly quick, but you get the point.

Roy Keane = One of the only true respectable Man Utd players.

The fact that Keane made so many appearances for the manscum had less to do with him being a very good footballer but more to do with him being a charismatic leader and someone who wore his emotions on the sleeves. He was the boss and the leader on the field and never shyed away from letting his displeasure know to the opposition and his team mates. He became an integral part of Ferguson's team more for that than anything else. Hes like Gattuso, not a great talent and probably wont get a place in any other top team in the world, but was really important for his team. I dont rate him as a player and i certainly wouldnt want him or anyone like him in our squad, but i can see why he is a manscum legend.
