bin dipping twat Lawrenson just said that Davies's tackle on Clichy was perfectly ok and he was backed up by his dreary geordie sidekick shearer. What a pair of wankers but not surprising

It was a hard tackle he went for the ball.
The technique was careless though because he let his trailing leg clatter into Clichy.
It was not in the malicious category.
The way Lawrenson spoke about it though, was too arrogant, as if he would barely flinch if he was on the receiving end of the tackle.

Idiotic c**ts, bet they said the same thing about Taylor tackle on eddie.
I remember them condemning the tackle and defending Wenger's reaction
Ball was there to be won and Davies won it. My problem with the tackle was that the angle Davies was sliding in meant he was getting to catch a lot of Clichy as well when he went into the tackle. Not too sure how I would have felt if it was an Arsenal player who did that though and it is difficult to judge when someone who wins the ball also fouled someone

Seriously. Have any of you lads ever played football? One word - intent. Davies went in to catch Clichy. That was his prime aim - let the flash French kid know he's in a game. Happens all the time. I do it. I've had it done to me.
But (and it's a big BUT) there is an unwritten code on the pitch - you NEVER go in front on when marking out your territory with an oppo player. From the side or behind is acceptable because the player will most times just ride up over it. But front on is all about taking someone out. The recieving player has no where to go - his leg can only go back against itself - usually breaking or popping out the knee ligaments or ankle.
That is why our players were so pissed off at Davies - they knew what he had tried on Clichy - and why they were so pissed off after Eddies injury. No decent player goes in front on - it's a *word censored* thing to do and ends up in a serious injury most of the time.
Clichy was lucky.
I'm not making myself out to be Mr Football here but I've played competitive footy for 30 years at schools, district and county level and I've pretty much seen it all on the pitch. I can guarantee you Davies went in to do Clichy. Giving a player the benefit of the doubt is all very noble etc but sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade.

since when did football become strictly come dancing,
poor gael got a bruised shin and that was all, davies is a c**t but he went for the ball hard and fair, if toure had done that would people be moaning about it , would they fuck. we ever had a player that could do that we would applaud him for his commitment.
sometimes i wish people would take off there gooner tinted glasses and see things from a neutral view instead of the whole world is trying to kill us

I take your point, but IMHO Davies went into do Clichy. I love the physical element of footy and think the game would die without it. But there is a diference between a good fair strong tackle and going in to do someone.gus ceasar is a legend wrote:I am sorry DB10 but I completely disagree!
It was a hard but fair challene that won the ball cleanly. Sure his folow through caught Gael but when have you ever gone into a tackle 100% and worried about what happens after you win the ball?
We'll have to agree to disagree (I'm off to watch Charlie Boorman) safe in the knowledge that I'm right...
