It's all gone quiet over there...

Just a post to wonder what the 'doom and gloom' merchants of a couple of weeks ago think of Arsene Wenger now? Should he have splashed the cash like Spuds or spent 30 million on a hard working top notch player like Berbatov (didn't he shine against Chelski?). Well the collective sum of their points is less than ours. Feeling slightly more 'rose-tinted' now? Perhaps Wenger isn't an idiot after all? Or am I wrong? I said we should judge the team after these three games and whilst at Kiev we suffered from not taking chances we went to two grounds that have caused us problems and did the business, the second after a long european trip which usually results in a poor performance. Are Song and Eboue not up to the job? Theo just not good enough? You tell me.

Well done for predicting wins and a draw over the Premiership and European might that is Blackburn, Bolton and Dynamo Kiev. Good victories at home and a dreadful performance away which was saved by a scrappy late goal.

Nobody was calling Wenger an idiot and I don't remember anyone seriously asking for £30 million players. We all know we don't have the money.

Rather than judging us now at the beginning of the season, let's see how we are doing come April. Then we will see if Wenger was right to not address last seasons failing of squad depth. It is very easy to start blowing our own trumpet already but totally unrealistic to claim our early season form is a good barometer to judge us across a whole season.

As for Eboue and Bendtner, great Eboue is looking better and goals for both players will do wonders for their confidence. This does not suddenly make them fantastic players who can tip the balance in our favour. Yes Eboue has played decent but I think we are still owed a few performnces by him and surely decent performances are the least we expect?

Most people are concerned that last seasons lack of squad depth has not been addressed - lets look how we are doing in March before we decide if the promising early season form of a eboue and song turn into consistent 8/10 performances?

No one can judge our season on 5 gamers played so far. Our 1st team can beat most teams in the premier league but our squad isnt big enough and only as the season progress' will we see if Wenger was right in not buying players.

One thing that cant be argued is we all want Arsenal to win the league, Champions league and every other competition whatever catorgory people are put in  . As Gus wrote lets wait till April to see who was right and who was wrong

androyd.....you must be feeling a bit silly this morning after posting that nonsense. Five games doesn't make a season. Our depth of squad, or lack thereof, combined with our inexperience when we get to the business end of the season could still be a huge factor in the season.
I don't think anyone here called AW an idiot but many, myself included, are often very frustrated by his actions. He promised us a defensive midfielder would be signed before the second leg of the twente match and it didn't happen. That in itself is annoying but we also got told there is £70m in the kitty and clearly there wasn't.
All of us want Arsenal to win, it is just that some of us are intelligent enough to realise that you cannot do it on a shoestring these days.

We haven't conceded many goals but i think that is due more to luck and poor finishing from the opposition . We desperately need a strong CB who is good in the air . Gallas and Toure partnership is simply not good enough .

Regarding central midfield , i still feel we should have bought a experienced hard tackler with a good engine to protect the back four . Another problem is that without a Flamini type player alongside him , Cesc has had to play a deeper role than the previous season and this does not allow him the freedom that his ability deserves .

This Squad is good enough! it has got talent running right through it! Saturday proved it when our midfield was announced, im sure i wasnt alone in thinking, why are we playing two players out of position? but it worked, Wenger once again got it spot on, at times on saturday we produced some of the best football ive seen in a long long time, the Arsenal of a few seasons ago seemed to be back, with the attitude of you score 3 and we will score 4, or 5, or 6! that 20 minute spell where we could have scored about 5 was immense!

Eboue seems to have realised that he is actually a good footballer, at times he was roasting players, confidence is growing with each game!

I really like Bendtner, thought he produced a great performance saturday and chipped in with a goal, as he often does!

Gallas is the only thing really that i can see harming our title push this season, constant mistakes from him give the opposition chances that at some stage we will pay for! The jury is out on Denilson for me aswell but Alex Song seems like the player we need to protect the back four so can see a midfiels forming of Eboue, Walcott, Fabregas and Song... thats when we play two up front obviously, Denilson or Diaby may come in to form a 5 man midfield at times in the season

Dont forget this team has big players to come back too, Silvestre, Diaby, Rosicky???, Eduardo, Nasri! I think we are well equipped to have a a good crack at it this year!

People keep saying we need a Flamini and how important he was...we didnt win anything last year with him in the side did we?

The weekends results were perfect for us, i think we can build on this now and really go for it, a nice home game against Hull at the weekend will also be good!

apart from Gallas, i cant moan at all at the moment, we are looking as good as we ever had going forward and the goals are coming from everywhere!

C'MON U GUNNERS!!!! :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

End of discussion!

You have to take your hat off to someone who 5 games in feels vindicated enough to come out with all this "I told you so" stuff
Last season at this stage many on here (myself included) predicted that we would not succeed due to the limitations in our squad and sadly that proved to be the case  Nobody here then came on with all the we told you so bullshit because we were all gutted at how the season slipped away from us. Coming out with this kind of talk is both immature and premature given the fact that so few games have been played and the quality of the opposition we have faced. You might just recall a blistering start to last season from a belarusian twat who after 2 months reverted to the levels of shite that we had got far to used to seeing from him so if I was you I would reserve jusgement a while longer before lauding our team and individual players and knocking some on here  :x :x

When we lose this week, we will all blame androyd

What were the concerns before the season started? Almunia wasn't good enough? His reckless charges will get exposed sooner or later. That we struggle in the air? Toure and to a lesser extent Gallas have indeed struggled when ball been pumped in. Set pieces? Two goals conceded and none scored sums it up. Defensive partnership needs changing? Generally, the two don't look too comfortable though again mostly Toure that worries me. Lack of dm? Denilson vanishes when we lose control and is not a defensively minded player, Song we will have to wait and see. Will Ade score again? 4 goals in seven would be good only one of them was a hatrick, little worrying.

Can certain players remain fit? Can't tell yet. Squad depth? I'll note our second half backline with a rightback on the left and a centreback on the right or our wing players, Denilson playing out wide and Eboue has been used on the left more then once this season. Excuse me if I'm not leaping in the air in delight at that

We have been doing well but we haven't even reached winter yet.

I have the same reservations as I had this time last year. Simply the depth of squad and concerns about dm. Flamimi leaving was no major worry for me as he had only given one good season. Senderos was a liability imo. I was concerned about our lack of summer signings and still am.

I agree that we still have players to return from sickness but give me an old head in midfield please, someone with experience in the premier league and europe. Maybe january? I really don't want to be staying up like before til way past the deadline watching, hoping and praying and feeling flat and dejected the next day.

Can we do it with our current squad, I have no clue I certainly hope so.

Having said all that I will love The Arsenal til I die, nothing will change that. I'm not in it purely for the silverware, of course its nice when we win but its not the be all and end all for me. I got called a dinosaur recently, if thats what I am fair enough but give me back my Arsenal, let the JCLs fuck off to Chelsea.

Have you booked you place on the parade to the town hall when we run away with the title and your tickets to the CL in Rome?.Did you have a blindfold on during the Fulham game?. Last season we had a better start to the season and were unbeaten until December and we all know how it all ended up

Yes we are playing great football. But there are still big doubts over the keeper and the two centre halves.
Come back and have a go in May not 5 games into the season :banghead: :banghead:
