sorry to stress this point but if people choose to say that other people be they footballers or "normal" people then that's up to them. why on earth should players act in a way that the media/society dictates. why football players, what about musicians? it seems they can do what they like and they are forgiven. the hypocrisy of the media/society makes me sick.northbankbren wrote:I do get where you're comming from but, kids are kids, and there role models relect that.Radford149 wrote: why should anyone have to?
my point is a kids role model should be those in his immediate surrounding not a football player
A a kid I loved football and idolised the Arsenal players, like most(if not all) kids into football do,you look up to these guys. I remember the whole Merson thing like it was yesterday, and quite frankly as a kid my heart was broken to find out he was "on drugs". Only with age does the "role model" perspective you have come into play. I agree that most footballers are not good role models, but they are.

Whether someone should or should not hold up a footballer as a role model is another argument.
The undisputed fact, that NorthBank Bren and myself are saying, is that people DO hold them up as role models, especially kids.
So they become Role Models because of that, plus the job description listed in their contracts.
Footballers are the most high profile job in this country (except perhaps the Queen and the Prime Minister) ...and with that profile comes power and responsibility. you want to equate a footballer with the pm and the queen .....good for you
For all the "Prima Donnas" that you mention, there are plenty of players who do a lot for charity. Who use the media to draw attention to the charities they help. whats your point?
Acting responsibly in public, and being humble, is also part of a player's contract. rubbish
This was very much in the media this week with the contents of Wenger's "Blueprint" team talk that was handed out to players before last week's game and was found in a hotel room and leaked to the press.
As for my "Right" to tell a player how to act in his private life...where did that argument come from? Was not something I said. turn of phrase
The fact is that the football clubs have every right to tell a player how to act in their private life, and do tell them so, right down to their diet, their sleep patterns, and to keeping their weight sensible during the summer break. don't be so silly, they're human not slaves (except for ron) or robots. and as long as a player does the business a club won't care what a player does.
Gooner1315 took the photos..did he have a "Right" to take them?
I do not know what the law says on that, but it is courtesy to ask first.

I agree with DS to an extent.ds wrote:I think that if you are a famous person in any field you know the public will be wanting to take photos of you. Do anything you like in private, but once you do it in the public domain its a free for all
Whilst if you are famous then you expect people to try and take pictures of you in public (usually on their phone cameras),
but the proper courtesy is to ask first.
To not ask is not only rude, but also a bit weird.
If I saw Arsene Wenger in a restaurant, and he sneezes, and he's blowing his nose, is it a free for all for me take a photo of that?
No.
I would respect his privacy and his dignity.
I would not interrupt his meal, but if I could see he was finished eating and about to leave, I might go up to him, thank him for his success with the club, and ask if I might have a photo taken with him.
Maybe it is just me, but as a lifelong Londoner I expect to see someone famous every time I go to the West End, and often do. It is just part and parcel of living here, and I cannot get too frenzied up about it all.

Well done some of you for turning this thread into a monumental pile of bullshit!
There has been so much bollocks written in this thread it is untrue. Some of you need to take a reality check and stop trying to win a debate by using half arsed theories thst appear to be made up on the spot to suit!.
Trying dealing with facts instead of what sits comfortably with your viewpoint! Stop pretending that you are informed on subjects that you clearly are not! Give up the moral crusades!
If Gooner 1315 has the pictures he says he has then he is allowed to say the players name here because it is fact! If not then he is in the shit! Not the forum as the forum can disassociate itself from comments made by the users.
You have managed to turn a bloody good laugh and light hearted subject into another piece of PC nonsense!
It will be time soon to go to the official forum for a good laugh and a bit of fun!
