Getting to the training ground

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Getting to the training ground

Post by jesper arnsbjerg »

You can't really get near it. I've seen a few people getting autographs at the entrance / exit but you can't just go along to watch them. It's all hush hush. You'll just see a load of blacked out motors that'll probably be your lot.

Like the Chels did to the Manx, hire a spy plane and fly it over London Colney, you'll have a better chance of seeing something that way :)

THE ONLY WAY AROUND IT - APART FROM WINNING A COMPETITION RUN BY ARSENAL FC - IS TO DO WHAT I DID, TRY AND GET IN AS PART OF THE MEDIA.

FAX A LETTER TO THE PRESS OFFICE SAYING THAT YOU ARE WRITING AN ARTICLE FOR BLAH, BLAH MAGAZINE/NEWPAPER AND WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND THE TRAINING SESSION AND SUBSEQUENT PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE ALLOTTED MEDIA DAY. NOT GUARANTEED TO WORK BUT WORTH A SHOT BECAUSE OTHERS HAVE HAD SUCCESS THAT WAY IN THE PAST.

WITH YOU BEING FOREIGN JESPER, YOU ARE MUCH MORE LIKELY TO GET AWAY WITH IT THAN A BRIT BECAUSE YOU CAN NAME SOME OBSCURE SCANDINAVIAN PUBLICATION THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE!! 8)

I AM FORTUNATE IN THAT I DO HAVE A MATE IN THE MEDIA (NOT ONE OF THE NATIONALS) AND HE ARRANGED FOR US TO GO TO THE PRE UEFA CUP FINAL PRESS CONFERENCES AT THE (THEN) NEW TRAINING GROUND IN 2000. I MUST SAY, IT IS AN ABSOLUTELY BREATH-TAKING FACILITY.

I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF BEING IN THERE AND JUST STOOD IN AWE AND ADMIRATION AS THE ARSENAL PLAYERS ANSWERED QUESTIONS FROM THE ASSEMBLED MEDIA. 8) :D

ONE THING I DID FIND STRANGE THOUGH - THEY FORCE YOU TO TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES WHEN ENTERING THE MAIN BUILDING  (AND PROVIDE YOU WITH OTHER FOOTWEAR? I CAN'T REMEMBER FOR SURE). IT'S A GOOD THING I HAD MY BEST SOCKS ON THAT DAY, AND NOT THE USUAL ONES FILLED WITH HOLES!! :8)

Never tried it and dont think I would. I used to go to London Colney a few times and get autographs and stuff but since the club thinks everybody is selling it on Ebay now and making money out of the them they dont want to know. I was once the only one at London Colney and when I asked if I could come and watch training. The person went away and when he returned said " Mr Rioch doesnt want anybody inside because the team are working on a new move in training!"
It gets better !! The day after we played Spurs we had a set piece at their end , the move broke down and Spurs broke away and scored . Thats the honest truth !! I like IHH 's Idea and if the gooner need any journo's for interviews with the players then Chunky's your man !!
