That was the headline on the Sky Sports website. I can remember barely two weeks ago when Gallas was going to have a chat with Wenger about the team.
I'm guessing AW told him to leave the managerial duties to him and for Gallas to do his job in defence. Either that or our pre-season performance convinced this guy that perhaps there is something real in this team and perhaps AW knows what he's doing after all.
I'm surprised Gallas "has been asked to fill the leadership void" despite him being pretty much the only player to doubt the team in the off season.
Hopefully this is not just lip service. I'd still prefer Cap'n Kolo.

Well you should know by now that AW's policy has always been one of inclusion rather than exclusion, hence why he has offered him the role of capt!gunnerhead wrote:That was the headline on the Sky Sports website. Gallas has plenty of leadership qualities - he can lead by example on the pitch (given a decent run of games and settled partnership), he can certainly open his mouth (and his run-ins with Lehman are good for the team - keeps everyone on their toes) and his reading of the game is generally very good.
Certainly the worries he has voiced over recent weeks are only the similar to what many fans feel. Whether this should be kept in-house is another arguement. Certainly, over the last 10 years, the players have appeared to express their voices in the media quite freely - in contrast to Man Utd.
We need less shrinking violets on the pitch - which is why it was good to see a bit of harmony during the game against Ajax. I want to see the players standing up for each other, not the lone battles that we seem to be getting used to.

must say I was unhappy at gallas being handed the capt's armband for some of the pre-season matches ... but, on reflection, it seems to have had a great effect and the man seems to have been transformed: more visible signs that success of the team does matter a great deal to him ... increased drive .. hmmm .. one can even see this rub off on other players ...
Even though I have been touting Kolo for captain, with this sort of effect, I will gladly settle for Gallas .. lets hope these effects will last all season long ...
