usual thread starter… Arsene’s going to get booed before long. That isn’t going to be good. I am really not looking forward to that. I have a horrible feeling that this isn’t going to end well. Bill Shankly put Liverpool onto a platform from which, under a new manager, they went on to dominate the sport. The main thing is that Arsenal still have a decent group of players when Wenger goes. The fear is that the best might be off before he does.
Arsenal Football Club no longer have any bollocks (3/11)

Good article by the editor, read it in conjuction with Sunday's Arseblog and you really do have the current "state of play" at Arsenal.
The board have always over the years believed that this is Arsenal and something will turn up to solve all the current problems, that exaggerated calm that all will be well is for me our biggest worry.

Agree with Adrian and Arseblog's emotional piece - excellently written I thought. To think that so recently we were raving over 5 goals at Fenerbache - and worrying over the fact that we could have let in 10 the same night. It is a bit of a mess but I too hope the great man can sort it out for his own as well as our sakes.

All on the same day.
No coincidence.
Recent events have brought out the passion and analytical thinking amongst the fans...now we need the Boss to respond the same way.
Gooner.Ed has got a key point right. This IS the time to experiment. Certainly until January. Nothing to lose. Try out Djourou, Vela, Rasmey, Wilshere and Gibbs.
My thoughts:
This is Wenger's Third attempt at a side:
First being the 1998 Double Side.
Then there was a rebuilding period 1998 - 2001.
Followed by the Second Side being the 2002 - 2004 side which lingered on until the 2006 Champions League Final.
This side has failed because it is going backwards.
Wenger has failed to build each season, and we are now in no man's land.
He failed to do two things this summer:
Bring in Top players in key positions
Bring in a couple of experienced cheaper names to act as squad players, utility players who could guide the kids.
It is time to build a fourth side, and prune this one.
Actions:
Sell in the summer:
Eboue, RvP, Gallas and Toure.
Build new side around:
Clichy, Sagna, Cesc, Eduardo, Nasri, Walcott, Vela, Bendtner and Djourou.
Retain as prospects:
Wilshere, Ramsey, Gibbs, Traore, Nordveit, Diaby, Denislon, Randall, Coquelin.
In the summer take a good hard look at whether to sell:
Adebayor, Rosicky, Silvestre.
Buy:
Two top class Centre Backs.
Top class world beating central midfield tackler.
Utility defensive player who can fill in central midfield or centre back.
Leadership:
I would make Clichy skipper.
Yes he is only early 20's, and yes he has made the odd mistake, but he has a good temperament, and the respect of his fellow players.
I would let Cesc concentrate on his football.

Wholesale changes are not needed... just a couple of astute signings to re-address the balance of the team (we all know what's needed.. so lets leave it at that)
I just don't believe this squad has failed.. it's Wenger who has failed them! add some experienced heads, and the rest will click into place... that's what I believe.. as these players are hugely talented, and just need a little guidance on the pitch and we'll be a different team.

Unfortunately, the time for these "astute" signings was over the summer, and I very much doubt that Wenger will be able to get the "super, super players, at the right price" in January, as teams are reluctant to sell and prices are notoriously high... and Arsenal won't like that!
- so I fear we'll have to wait till next summer, before we can make a real difference to the makeup of the side.
