Wenger doesn’t need to buy a centre back! (6/11)

Wenger doesn’t need to buy a centre back! (6/11)

usual thread starter… haven’t checked the stats, but if Djourou has been involved in clean sheet defences, he should continue in the first team. With the injury situation, he’ll probably get a run in the team anyway. He seemed to be very active in organising the defensive line, and Fabianski was also very vocal. Give them both a run in the team. Wenger should try something very, very revolutionary and see what happens… pick the team on form. Have a stinker and you’re dropped. Was pleased to see some changes in the starting eleven last night, better late than never. Bendtner survived though. I’d have played Vela.

Do you think we’ll have a 4-5-1 or a 4-4-2 against United?

Good points Ed, I agree Vela must start and play the whole 90, I do not believe he is a "impact sub" When he played against Sheff Utd he was quiet for the first 25 minutes (I know its Sheff Utd and not Man U) but once he caught the pace of the game he was devasting and I think if he played as the 1 in a 4-5-1 he could give Ferdinand & Vidic a problem in not having anyone to mark. Bendtner should be a sub if we have to go long later in the game but his close control is not good enough in a match where possesion is vital. As we have no real forward to play with Vela I would use Diaby playing just behind with Ramsey and Denilson holding, a deeper Cesc with Nasri for a bit of width. (I actually think Cesc needs a rest) Crucial last night was the clean sheet but I agree with Ed: Vela, Djourou, Ramsey & Fabianski need a good run, with Master Jack on the bench to bleed him in to the squad. Utd apparently are odds on for Saturday but I think we will see a very decent performance from our team with a draw being the most likely result.

Couldn't agree more to all these comments, but Wenger never, ever drops anyone. When everybody is fighting fit, it will be business as usual. Competition for places? Selection based on form? A complete myth! Why do you think we are so complacent/arrogant? A place in the starting line up is a job for life. No one ever seems to get shaken up for playing like a drain. Anyone who's ever played competitive team sport at any level will tell you that the idea of losing your place tends to crystallise your thinking a bit.

Totally agree, I think Djorou is the most complete defender at the club and a real future star. He's tall, quick, strong, great on the ball and he actually doesn't seem to mind defending - which is pretty useful in a defender. It is a mystery to me why he doesn't get a game. He looked good when kolo was injured at the start of the season, and he looked good last night. KEEP HIM IN THE TEAM ARSENE!!!!!
Also, I'm not an Almunia basher - his handling is usually excellent, as is his speed of the line - but I'm getting seriously annoyed with how he goes for balls heading for the his top left corner with his RIGHT F***ing hand, losing himself about a foot of reach in the process, can't our coaching staff see this and SORT IT OUT it is costing us goals. I was really pleased to see Fabianski play last night, actually thought Arsene had dropped Al for poor form, but of course that was just being too hopeful!
Anyway, now is not the time to gripe. We supoorters need to SUPPORT OUR TEAM. If you booed last night's result, sfter plenty of effort and some new faces then shame on you. :barscarf:

Personally I still think he needs to go out and get another CB. Even if Djourou does turn out to be the real deal (I'd rather judge him against the likes of Manure than Fenerbache) we'll still need a second one at the club. One injury/suspension and we'd be shagged.

I agree with Spudmasher. We have seen false dawns before with the likes of Senderos, and this seemed to give Arsene an excuse not to strengthen.

I would rather see a really good solid centre half brought in. There must be someone out there who can be got for a fair price.

I like Djourou but I've no idea if he's good enough because we've not seen him enough. The only way to find out is to give him an extended run. He has the height and he has the heading ability.

Djourou:

Fast, agile, reasonably strong, good tackler, good recovery tackler, calm on the ball, decent distribution, good temperament, International experience.

I would still like a 6 foot 4 experienced signing for the position in January though, probably to pair up with Djourou.

Let Gallas fight for his place.

Toure I would rest and treat properly for his ankle injury.

:barscarf: i totally agree djourou should be given a run in the side.gallas should be made work for his place.as for alumunia he gets beaten too easily from long range against spurs why was he standing on the penalty spot when bentley struck the ball?as for who plays up front for us on saturday bendtner or vela maybe both only problem we have no senior strikers on the bench to change the game if we have to chase it.
