Inconsistent stewarding at Arsenal = angry fans (9/8)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Inconsistent stewarding at Arsenal = angry fans (9/8)

usual thread starter – there is no question that there is inconsistency in the stewarding. And the club will argue that they have to be seen to do something sometimes or risk sections of the ground being closed. It’s a really tough one this, but I’ve heard through channels at Arsenal that the stewards are under orders to be more ‘customer friendly’ this season. So hopefully there won’t be any ejections unless people have been given fair warning and their behaviour is genuinely unreasonable. This is one hell of an emotive issue though, so I await anecdotal evidence with interest…

Bloody good point ed!
The stewards may argue they are only following the rules when in reality they arent.

when i see them deal with the away fans in the same manner they do Arsenal fans then imay have a change of heart until then any steward who argues rules are rules is talking absolute Ballacks!

I was at the West Ham game last season and when West Ham scored a few fans jumped up and cheerd... What did the stewards do ?? Absolute Fuck all Arsenal fans aksed for them to be moved and the steward said no so one fan went up to the West Ham fans and asked them to leave in a polite way (A fight started) and 4 arsenal fans got throw out not one West Ham fan not even the one who threw the first punch

I think some of those stewards are hired just to make up the numbers because there thick as shit, I'm not saying all are i get on with a fair amount of the stewards but some just don't have a clue

Are the stewards scared off the away fans or something

http://youtube.com/watch?v=JwhGoQIF-Oo

Most of these are thugs from the away fans but they are aveing a goodnight out
Are the stewards the one to blame for poor singers?
As somebody wrote long before that he pictured the stadium full of Arsenal etc flags all over the place like at England matches but this was banned afterwards which kinda spoit the early day at the Emirates
Going to one of the Brazil matches they allowed the Brazilian's to carry round flags all over the place when they played ere once
Why are we different from them, we go there every week & pay good money to watch Arsenal play with the Hilter type stewards telling everyone what to do & spoil the game for some
Thankfulley yet i haven't been told off for something expect bringing in a flag on a pole in which they kept for me safe & sound till after the game
Arsenal need to change there ways otherwise some fans might start giving up there tickets if they get treated like shit

I was at that Dinamo Zagreb match, I thought their fans were excellent and made no trouble at all.

Made the rest of the ground look like a country club by comparison.

Although point taken why can they enjoy themselves but we get threatened with ejection?

I've read on a Newcastle fan site that they were praising our stewards for the way they were treated when they played at the Grove last season! Maybe one day we'll say the same thing as home fans. I think its bullsh*t for anyone to say that away fans have to treated differently because they are only here once per season. The rules are the same in every ground so it shouldn't be the case that Newcastle fans or anyone else can stand up, wave flags, engage in "banter" - but that home fans can't!

Last season v Spuds in Carling Cup - Stewards took the decision to accept people standing up. But then got narked when my kids sat on the top of their seats! Me? I'd just like to see a bit more common sense and an even handed approach not just between home & away fans but between all the stadiums in the Premier League.

I have to add that this is not just an issue at the Emirates.

I was at Bolton for the FA Cup reply, and there were a couple of Arsenal fans standing and singing trying to bring some atmosphere into the ground, and the Bolton stewards gave them one warning and then threw them out of the ground, ten minutes into the game.

Now when the Bolton fans who were right next to us stood up singing there were told to sit but not ejected from the ground. A few of them were even trying to get over the division between us, but they were allowed to stay in the ground.

Double standards at all the grounds not just ours!!

I'm guessing in some cases telling certain away fans the law will only make things worse, at which point there would be a decent argument for not being strict with the law. As for the flag situation, I thought that was a club rule rather then just the stewards?

Let's not beat about the bush

Our stewards and stewards at away grounds will shy away from dealing with your Newcastles, your Manu's and spuds because of the grief they get. If you had a team like Norwich in our away end and a team like spuds/manu, then Norwich are likely to be treated worse because the likelihood of any significant outbursts or trouble is less.

Loudmouths + reputation = Less chance of seeing the stewards.

The same fans who sang "If you want to stay alive, go home, pussies!"

Still, being sat above them was a right laugh. I don't think they actually caused any real trouble.

Didn't pick up on that, was that in English or Croat?

Anyway it isn't any worse than 'and if you are a Tottenham fan surrender or you die' or 'Martin Jol's mother is a whooooooooooore!'

None whatsoever, which is why I never use the word.

Even if they think they've 'reclaimed' the word, most Spurs fans are gentiles from Hertfordshire and it's no more their word to reclaim than West Ham's white Essex fan base calling themselves the 'pakis'.

Spurs are Spuds not ****.

I totally agree that if rules are laid down then they should be for everyone. However some stewards will always be better than others. Most of the supervisors (gate) are spuds and therefore they hate you and some of the younger ones just have a chip on their shoulder. Saying that though some of the stewards are decent as long as you don't take the p**s.

If you smoke you are out, don't argue either as it is a criminal offence and that does go for the away supporters as well.
