Coward Webb

Post by O'Leary »

I know it's a classic Arsenal rant about the referees but this bloke yesterday was awful.

Sitting where i do directly behind AW but right at the back I was easily able to spot Ronaldo diving when not even touched. Free kick not deserved but given, then the worse one was Nasri, he'd beaten everyone only to be blatently hauled back by Vidic for a Pen and given nothing.

The whole game was littered with bad decisions and I know i have the Arsenal glasses on but I'm sure 75% of them were against us!

So, United even with a 12th man in Webb. We still did em.

Well done Arsenal, you proved me wrong and did me proud!

What dive by Ronaldo? If he was going to dive, he would have done it under any three of the lunges in the box at one point.

Sky has a point, from the angle that Webb was at (until they fix camera's on the eyes, we will never know 100% what they can see), I doubt Webb could see any of the fouling.

Bolloxed that one when Clichy handballed didn't he?

Could'nt agree more mate, the geezer was a complete *word censored* all through the game. Could he be one of those "Sir Alex approved" refs that they always seem to get for big games?

Yes it was a penalty, but look at where webb is standing. He's behind vidic, so cant see a thing....therefore cannot give it. If he was standing in a position whereby he could see the incident, he would have given it.

on the penalty note, who would have taken it?

there was no real candidate on the pitch to take the penalty, would nasri have stepped up? would kolo have pulled rank and gone for it with his monster right foot?

end of the day, vidic is beaten nasri's in on goal and he gets pulled down. any other game im willing to bet it would have been given

Refs need the chance to look at video replays (or another official in the commentary box) if they want to get it right.

Webb was pretty awful. But the bad decisions were not all his fault. What he couldn't see, he couldn't give.

What you can't see you can't give to be fair. So as annoying as it was, I don't blame Webb for not giving the Nasri pen. Then again he didn't give the pen for Clichy's handball either so it kinda evened itself out in that respect.

I think there were several mistakes in the game from Webb but I would definitely stop short of suggesting any cheating. He made mistakes both ways.
And regarding Ronaldo diving, I'm gonna give the Portugese ladyboy a bit of credit. He could easily have gone down in the box and would definitely have got a pen. He chose to stay on his feet for once. Full credit to him.
Rooneys assault on Theo was enfuriating. Not so much the tackle but the commentary afterwards. :banghead: :banghead:

Howard Webb is one of, if not the best referee in the country. But I simply could not believe his inconsistency on Saturday. I'll let him off for the Nasri penalty, though sitting in Block 6 I wont see a clearer pen this season. But how he could not see Carricks foul on Diaby is beyond me. It was a free kick & a yellow card & he gave neither. He was generally very poor & Im just glad we came through in the end.
