Fabianski....safe hands?????

As a result of Almunia making a couple of errors recently, this forum went into overdrive calling for Fabianski to take his place in the first eleven. Now, I don't know how many of you were watching last night, or what tint you had on your glasses, but personally I can't see that he is any better at all.
He made a couple of decent saves in the game and the double one towards the end was excellent but, and it is a big but (much like Gus), He came and missed several high balls into the box. His positioning was questionable to say the least. At one point in the second half Wigan had a free kick on their left, about level with the edge of the box against the touchline. Fabianski was positioned on the corner of his six yard box!!!
The ball sailed over his (and everyone elses fortunately) head. Had it been a better ball he wouldn't have stood a chance.
The throw in within the first few minutes!!!!What was he thinking?
I'm not saying he is a bad keeper but he is not any better than Almunia at the moment. Fortunately he has youth on his side and could improve but the harsh reality is that if we want to improve our goalkeeping position then we need to buy in. Our current back-up isn't good enough either.

Have we got a goalkeeping coach at Arsenal any more??? And is it Vince bloody Bartram??!!

I think we should play rush goalie, I reckon Eboue would be great at diving for the low balls

I think he is a better shot stopper then Almunia but I agree about his judgment on high balls. The question is, do we want a line keeper who will never help the defenders and thus lead to problems or one who will charge out and try to aid the defenders, making mistakes but also capable of snatching dangerous balls away.

We all know his weakness is in the air (he's not the tallest) but his other attributes more than make up for this. He could be the most agile and athletic keeper the premership has even seen.

You can't "make up" for letting anyone score from a cross against you. No matter how agile he is, if he's not capable of coming for crosses, he'll concede plenty - particularly with our anthill mob defence.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Gealic Football 'keeper signed up.

The one that played the International Rules matches seemed alright - would be able to get some mighty distance on goalkicks too!

He's played against Wigan, Sheffield United and Seville. Kieran Gibbs played in at least two of those as a left back and looked comfortable. Stick him in against Chelsea and see how he does.

I think Wigan would have been a much tougher test for Fabianski if Heskey had played. Although his save to Zaki at the end was world class.

What do you mean see how he does against Chelsea? He's a international goalkeeper ffs. It dosent appear that anything scare's him

The thing I like about him the most is his never say die attitude that's probably why Wenger has made him captain, he's got the potential to be one the worlds best imo.
