Corporates

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Yes quartz definetly, I miss that chant from the highbury days, the display baord used to display the words with the two hands clapping together arsenal, arsenal sounds so dull and half hearted!!

In fairness to them three, they were going before. It's people who don't enjoy the game who are either being dragged along or do it to please their partners (what's wrong with a good old tradtitional nosh?)

Not just women either, see plenty of "city boys" dragging a mong from their office along to the game.... you can tell because they talk about the fantastic architecture of the stadium (concrete, steel, glass.... look at any other building in the City if you're that fascinated!), then spend 90 mins talking about people from work/recession/bonuses/cars...

Too many children?

On the contrary...not enough children, kids who would make a racket because they're watching their heroes.

Isn't that what it's supposed to be about?

Don't have a problem with kids going to games, but I think it would be more enjoyable for them (and everyone else) if they used the fucking family enclosure......

I don't understand why the club forces OAPs to sit there to get their discount. Keep the kids together, something like a schoolboys enclosure with no adults (or even a max of one adult per kid) would help.

And why do kids only ever know one song, and sing it over and over again.. I hated "red army" after Tuesday night.....

...because they pick it up from the older fans who rarely sing anything!

Kids, or perhaps teenagers, ought to be all over the ground, singing and shouting for The Arsenal, dispelling some of the cynicism that comes from the older fan.

Trouble is, in this day and age, that's not going to happen...

Until the club change the seating arrangements so that those who want to sing sit behind the goals and those that don't move to the sides then I predict little or no change. Our support has changed since the move and not for the better although Highbury wasn't a cauldron of noise in it's last few years.

On my way out to the bar at half time against Wigan I actually heard someone ask "what's now, a 15 minute interval?" :banghead:

I'm a teenager myself, and I sing as much as anyone, when I first started going I never sang at all, I was too embarassed, how many people sing at their first few games? I was then taken to more and more games, and I was still to shy to sing, even though I wanted to. Gradually I started to excercise my voice only a few seasons ago, then after that I became very loud and have sung ever since. I think that happens to the majoriy of supporters, first off they are quiet and then they build up the nerve to sing?

You don't really see many spread out around the ground, I have sat near a few before, but it's the odd one.Would be good to put them among the singing fans, then they would learn more songs and add to the noise.

Now, I'm not being stereo-typical to old people here, and it doesn't apply to every single old person, but usually the people who don't sing are old men just sitting there moaning. Some of them might even be true Arsenal fans, just neevr make any noise. If only these people would find their voices  .

Yep. I have the same experience as Sutch re: going and gradually getting louder. Now I stand when there is any sort of song going and get daggers for it. Still, being a teenager who sits in Club Level and whose dad often comes in suits (work ) I guess I'm the exception to the fucking rule.
With old people, at the **** game (there were a few of us standing for 90 mins...) there were two septuagenarians behind us who said literally NOTHING the whole game and left 5 mins early... ..so I can understand some views.
And in reply to Tom - I was right next to that block and some tosser left an unnatended bag.. ..just shows the stupidity of the stewarding at Arsenal really.

I know several people on here are members or supporters of redaction so why not get them to take up the issue with the club ? I often sit in the club level and I would have a more balanced view than most but the one thing that really gets on my tits is the late returners after half time  If these people attend the theatre and they are late back after a break then they are stopped from returning until the next break in the play. Would it hurt the club so much for them to contact their corporate customers and inform them that the doors will be shut when the 2nd half starts and if their people are not back in at that time then they will be refused access after that. Personally I would rather be sitting beside an empty seat for the whole 2nd half rather than some *word censored* come back to his seat 10-15 mins into the half

I don't need to justify myself to some fella who thinks he is Mr Arsenal, get a grip.
its people with a mentality like you thats exactly whats wrong with the club. dont need to justify yourself? well you're adding to the fucking problem by not singing. just cos people want to encourage others to create some sort of atmosphere doesnt make us think we're 'Mr Arsenal'....

Everyone who wanted the 60,000 Soul-less Bowl has got their just desserts.

How else did we expect to fund the massive debt that it has thrown the club into....with kids for a quid ??

We have got what we asked for - an expensive stadium and the only way to pay for it is through 'supporters' with deep pockets. The Diamond Club boys are hardly the type to start singing and standing up halfway through the match are they ? Start charging people upwards of £60 for a decent seat at a grade A game and the atmosphere will drain away.....

I use to love going to Old Trafford and singing "60,000 muppets" at the 'tourists' who populated the Theatre of Shite. Now in our attempt to keep up with the Joneses, we are in exactly the same boat.

When I was at the Utd game last weekend, a woman came and sat next to me, wearing her R&W scarf around her neck, sat down and started reading some book to do with medieval times, like Lord Of The Rings or something like that, and I had no problem with this, even if it was a bit different.

She just sat there all game long, never said a word at all. They piss me off so much. Multiply her by 35000 and there you have it.

You can see them on tele, whenever we take a corner in the North End they just sit there, no encouragement for the players. You see them in the East and West too, especialy as the East Lower is the most shown part as the cameras face it.

Lastly, why the same old drone of "ARSENAL - ARSENAL" at every set piece, it sounds pathetic, a quick burst of it then silence. Much prefer Come On Arsenal TBH.

the grove IS shit. fact . END OF. as for the corporates they are all wankers. it will not change until we get the plums out of the ground

to be fair, its very hard to say that X isnt a 'true' fan if they dont sing, the 3 guys who sit behind me havent missed a home game for upwards of 30 years, they are ARSENAL through and through and know their football inside out but ive never heard them sing or chant because its obviously just not in their nature, good people, real fans but just dont want to sing, fair enuf IMHO I sing, enjoy singing and will always sing but thats up to me not anyone else who thinks i should or shouldent

Early leavers - i find it disgusting but there is absolutely nothing that the club can realistically do about it. Unforunately my family and my uncle's family share 2 season tickets so its a cycle as to who gets to go to games - i called my dad up on the final whistle of the villa game (he was there, i wasnt) and started to moan about the result only to hear that him and my uncle were already on the bloody bus because 'it just wasnt good enough wenger should be sacked' - all this from a man who hero-worshipped Jack Kelsey as a kid and has been going ever since!!!

anyway my very long winded point is that when the club do so little to allow a great atmosphere and when their interaction with supporters is minimal at best, it is perhaps not the best idea to lump all non-singers and early leavers as johnny-come-latelys and plastic fans
