Booing Our Boys

Post by Simon »

I know there's a lot of people pretty angry after Saturday' s performance, but what really p***ed me off after the final whistle was the chorus of boos that went round the stadium. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I think that's a pathetic and sad reaction from so-called supporters. As a Gooner, I'll support my team through the good times and the bad times. I was gutted on Saturday, but I still stood there after the game to applaud the team and will continue to do so, win or lose.

I don't agree with Booing but they only get my applause if they deserve it! I'll cheer them all the way for 90 minutes no matter how things are going because then we can make a difference but after the whistle they only get the kudos if they put the effort in to earn it

The fact is I doubt there is more than 40,000 fans that wouldn't abandon the team if we dropped out of the Champions League.
The majority these days either leave early or stay and boo. We are a laughing stock.

so booing is going to make him change? i doubt it, and it wont do a lot for the confidence of our players walking of the pitch if their own fans are booing them

never boo the team it is totally counterproductive. I stayed to the end and booed Riley off and joined in the applause of Theo who made a point of applauding all of us.

This has been bantered about before, i started a thread about this, i think after the fanerbache game, and we didnt even lose. Rather than go into a rant, on the last thread is was bantered that although booing is not something that should be done at all, it seems to be the only real way fans can communicate any disaproaval of the club to the board as we have virtually no method of communication, but then at the same time the people that are really affected by it are the players. I can understand that. However i think its wrong, just coz we aren't performing to that level that the hype and history around the team would dictate its no reason to boo. Fans of teams that expect mid-table trophyless seasons don't boo, we should be greatful we follow a decent well respected side, having a bad run. The overall affect of booing is negative to the team, so i'd rather bottle the frustration and have a rant on here or at some mates in the pub after the game, the team need to hear the positive aspects of having 55,000 home fans in the ground.

There was booing at the end of the game from the home fans, at least those that had remained in their seats until the end. I don’t think this is a particularly healthy way of expressing your support for the team, but I can understand it. People pay a lot of money to fund the wages of the manager and the players and they can accept defeats if they think the players have put in serious effort to win a game. There was little evidence of that on Saturday. The team is flat, and the team is tired. And it’s only November. There is no justifiable excuse for the fatigue they are feeling. They’ve had a week off since beating Manchester United.

Which is worse booing the team AFTER the game or leaving 10 mins before the final whistle when the players can see rows and rows of empty seats?

Dont agree with booing your own players. I see teams like Newcastle do it & I always think "what a bunch of tw*ts". People must think the same when they see us do it.

I just didnt do or say anything when the whistle went. Then when Gael & Theo applauded us I returned the compliment.

This game hurt. Given the context of coming off a week’s rest, of beating United with the same lineup, of playing at home, and of the youth team dismantling Wigan in such sparkling fashion that was perhaps the ugliest Arsenal game I have seen all season.

First, and perhaps most painful, is the fact that the team played without any passion. From the kickoff they looked nervous, uncertain, and very early on made key mistakes that led to yellow cards. Denilson picked up a yellow in the 10th minute and Fabregas in the 18th, this essentially de-fanged Arsenal’s midfield, true, but is there anyone who watched the match who thought that at any point that Arsenal team might come out and try to put a physical stamp on the match? Try to bully the win from Villa? No. Because this team lacks true passion. They can get geed up for a game, but when push comes to shove, when Agbonlahor knocks one of our players off the ball, no one is there to push back. Losing a game happens, but losing a game and letting the other team push you around because you didn’t give your best, because you caved in and let them push you around? That’s not Arsenal football.

Worse than that, though, is the fact that the Captain of the team is one of the people who can be pushed around. Gallas is more likely to have a hissy fit than to tackle a showboating Nani off the pitch like Flamini did last year. And that’s the second big problem; ok, so let’s all agree that Gallas isn’t captain material, who is? Cesc? ha! If he was captain material he would have shown it by now. In any organization if there is a leadership gap a natural leader will rise and fill that gap — unless there isn’t a natural leader. Who then, Adebayor? Nasri? Denilson? Diaby? Do I have to keep going? Each name is more comical than the next. Arsenal have no leader. Gallas is “leaderâ€

I sat in Block 26 for the game and was surprised at the atmosphere compared to United. It was like a liabrary and the Villa fans pointed that out a few times. When Bendtner came off and people where booing the guy along to me started singing "our support is fucking shit" and i agree with him. Yes, people pay there money to watch Arsenal and they can do what they want, Yes Bendtner was shit and shouldnt have started but how can we boo a 20 year old who i think is a decent player off the field for having a bad game. If it was Theo , none would have booed him.
