REDaction - A chance to put forward your ideas

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

REDaction - A chance to put forward your ideas

Post by Wayno »

Here's the latest email from our friends at REDaction. I guess it's fair to say to those of us that constantly question their motives and effectiveness "Turn up & speak up or shut up" 8)

Anyone who was at the Emirates Cup or the Carling Cup match against Wigan will have noted the waves that rolled around the ground on both occasions, and the smiles they brought to many faces.

Now I am a bit of an old fogey from the Clock End who thinks that the 'Mexican wave' has its place but that place is not at an Arsenal game. However if people enjoy it, and they certainly seemed to be the other night, and it adds to the atmosphere then who am I to criticise?

Whether it be giant flags, scarves, Mexican waves, drums, loud-hailers or whatever there are many ideas out there for improving the atmosphere at the grove.

We at REDaction have been at the forefront of promoting various ideas over the last few seasons, some have worked, some have not, and some have yet to come to fruition.

Our postbag over the last month or so has been full of people bemoaning the lack of backing for the boys.

REDaction have also received some criticism for losing sight of our original intention of improving the atmosphere at matches.

As we have always said we are an open-forum and we want as many ideas as possible from every part of our support. We don't and never have claimed to have all the ideas.

To that end we have organised a meeting prior to the Dynamo Kiev game between 5pm and 6.30pm at a venue within 5 minutes of the ground. The idea is to get as many ideas together as we can that we can take to the club if needed, or if they are workable without the clubs assistance to start working with through our own members etc.

The meeting will be more of a brainstorming session than an 'official' meeting etc and you don't have to have any connection with REDaction to get involved. All we ask is that you turn up at some stage during the meeting and make your voice or voices heard.

The offer is there, come on lets show some unity, if you want to come along please e-mail us at: [email protected] and we will be in touch with the venue details etc.

I would think that its called that as i remember it first appearing during the mexico 86 world cup, it was all over the news at the time. Hence Mexican wave.

Not sure of the origins of the wave... but with regards the "mexican" bit...

I think that's to do with the Mexico World Cup in '86, where it would have reached a worldwide audience.

Hence.. the Mexican Wave. (that's my theory, anyway)

Maybe some ideas can be listed on here and a 'responsible' representative could put them forward.

We have supporters clubs all over the world, each with their own flag. At Sunderland they have copies of these displayed around the ground. How about having something similar above/below the trophy listings?

The world needs to know it's The Arsenal even when they watch a game like Brazil v Sweden.

I like the idea of having LOADS of Arsenal banners.. I'm in the second row, so I'll be able to do one - any ideas?

Fuck the mexican waves off. They are so disrespecful to what's happening on the pitch, it's like saying "the team aren't entertaining me, I'm going to entertain myself". If that's how you think, go and have a *****. Can't believe how happy people get when they stand up and go "woooo"... why don't you stand up and go "The wanky totnumb hotspur went to rome to see the pope" if you want to get involved. *word censored*.

Advise for red action - slow the fuck down. Seriously, it's not a race. I'm not saying to go as slow as S**rs when they do "when the *word censored* go marching in" (that just sounds like they're a bit thick), but not everyone is an ill rapper like flava flav...

Flags would be good, even if they just filled the cinder track between the stands and the ad boards. I'd love to see what the person who got national flags banned would say about that

Loud hailers? Could be interesting... a lot of eastern european teams have something similar (was it Zagreb who were going mad jumping up and down with one bloke directing everything last season?)

The loudhailer thing is to do with the Ultra culture on continental Europe..where fan displays are organised and co ordinated.

Just cannot see it working with our drunken rabble!

Doesn't have to be anything elaborate... just the first line of well known songs, or a full rendition of any new ones which come about. I'd personally feel like a bit of a twat doing it, but I'm sure there are plenty of willing volunteers.
