Letting Gilberto go was a bigger mistake - the real leader in the Arsenal team and the protection that this back four is crying out for.

But Gilberto was past his best TBH. A shame (after his stellar work in 2004) but his last season with us was shocking, stumbling around the midfield like a hungover wino, a yard or five off the pace, spraying random passes into touch two yards behind the intended target...
A true great at his peak, but his peak was mostly gone by 2005...
