None of them would be that great. Clichy is a weird one... because he's a decent player and popular with the fans doesn't mean he would be a skipper. He seems to be told "chin up" more than most other players (especially after he makes a mistake), I can't see him motivating the rest of them
Cesc is probably the most "natural" leader, just because of the way he plays. He's dynamic, gets everyone involved, and never looks defeated (ala Clichy). His shit form is clearly a tactics issue, he's having to do the work of two midfielders because Flamini is gone and there isn't a player at Arsenal capable of doing his work.
Personally, I'd sign Essien in January and make him captain. With the money we spend on tickets, the money the club are making from corporates and property sales, we should be able to do a one off massive fucking transfer.

However I would give it to cesc cos he is the best man for the job but only if he commits himself to the club until at least summer 2010 and I dont mean that in contract terms but more in face to face terms cos I think young cesc respects le boss too much to lie to his face.
If cesc doesnt get the job then its clichy for me all the way cos in terms of commitment he is streets ahead of his team-mates but I still believe that he is well behind cesc in terms of respect from team-mates, opposition players and in stature in the game worldwide
i agree augie. cesc for me is the man for the job but only IF he is commited to the club and by looking at his body language in games, it makes you wonder why he would want to be here come the summer. cesc is without doubt respected by the fans, other players at arsenal. at 21 and being our star player seems ideal to lead this young team. its similar to the situation at liverpool carragher could be a captain, like toure could be, but gerrard inspires and leads the team like cesc does for us.
