Nigel Brown on sport.co.uk

Arsenal are weighing up a move for Vitesse Arnhem goalkeeper Piet Velthuizen. The 22-year-old, who was voted Keeper of the Year in Holland last season, has already been linked with a whole host of top European clubs including Valencia and Inter Milan.

A journalist friend of mine has said he's heard Aiden McGeady could be on wengers wanted list.

Personally I am not too sure about mcgeady but, as I said to a friend of mine earlier today, he would be a much better option on the wings than either denilson, diaby or eboue. Problem is he is no stronger than wilshire and is left footed so unless he jumps ahead of jack w and pushes nasri over to the right then I cant see the point in signing him :?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes he has unearthed his next young star and is duly keeping tabs on Boulogne defender Steven Mouyokolo after impressive scouting reports. (The Sun)

Can he jump ?
Can he bollock full backs ?
Does he understand how to play the offside trap ?
Does he like doughnuts ?

If you answered no, yes, no, yes........you've just qualified him to join Arsene's academy for defenders.

one stone, two birds...

How about Ashley Young? We need wide players and it weakens one of our direct rivals (for 4th place)... Not that we care cos we are going to finish 1st or 2nd....

Two reasons why not:

1. English
2. Not available at the "right price" i.e. not cheaper than Lidl's 2 for 1 Liebfraumilch

One that's been rumoured but obviously now NOT going to happen:

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is making an £8m move for West Ham's England centre-back Matthew Upson. (Daily Mirror)

Oh well. We were planning to spend at least £2m on him I'm sure

After a week of being linked to obscure French players, we now get linked to big names!

Andrew Allen on Sport.co.uk:

Speculation is mounting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will launch a stunning bid for Manchester United’s loan striker Carlos Tevez.

Rob Draper in The Mail on Sunday:

Arsenal are preparing a club record £20million bid for Russia forward Andrei Arshavin in a dramatic move to bolster their squad this January.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is breaking his habit of holding back transfer cash and Arshavin, the Zenit St Petersburg front man who was at the club's London Colney training ground last week, is expected to join early next month.
