Who will deputise for Cesc?

Who will deputise for Cesc?

Post by Basil is a Gooner »

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger has not decided whether Manuel Almunia will become Arsenal captain in the absence of Cesc Fabregas.

On Tuesday, the manager revealed that he would be without the Spanish midfielder for up to four months after the 21-year-old damaged knee ligaments in the weekend clash with Liverpool.

Almunia took the armband when Fabregas went off on Sunday but, according to Wenger, he may not keep it throughout the hiatus.

“I don't know yet,â€

I would be happy with RVP or even Clichy however I think it will be Almunia. Is he our vice captin atm?

i cant c any1 other than the spainish porn star being given the armband. van persie is a sulk, and i wouldnt want him in battle beside me, clich def is no leader. only other canadites would be, sagna and silvestre. sagna, not long enough at the club, and silvestre, not a certian starter, so it has 2 be almunia.

I disagree with RvP being a sulk. He has shown more passion this season than anyone else. I think he should be made captain. That may even instill a little more maturity in him.

showed plenty of passion at Stoke when getting himself needlessly sent off

the fact we're struggling to think of a suitable replacement captain speaks volumes about the current side

I agree. But regardless he is still the only one I find remotley suitable for the job. I could see Clichy getting it as well though.

granted it was stupid but you cant hold that single incident against him. How many times did Viera get needlessly sent off and yet i distinctly remember him being a world class captain. My vote would have gone with Kolo had he not had so many injury problems and transfer speculation this season

After the sending off against Southampton when Wenger gave him THAT look a couple of years ago, I thought RVP may have realised he has to calm his temper. But watching him on Sunday, he was so close to getting himself sent off that really I don't think a lot has changed. Even though there aren't many alternatives, having him as skipper doesn't sit well. Fantastic natural talent but a team player?
On that basis, regrettably I think it has to be Manuel.

Would like to see Clichy get armband but think it will be Almunia.
