Whilst the Liverpool fans are still here.....

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Whilst the Liverpool fans are still here.....

Post by g88ner »

I think we can all agree that the events at Hillsborough was a very sad day for all football fans, and it's a subject I don't feel a need to contribute to here today...

However, Just out of interest, where to most Liverpool fans stand on the possibility of the re-introduction of safe standing areas like those in the German Bundesliga?

and do you know whether the majority of families of the Hillsborough victims would support this, or be totally against it?

I would be in favour of safe standing areas.

I can't speak for all Liverpool fans but I personally would welcome the safe standing areas at Anfield, I believe that standing at the match would give a major boost to the often-flat atmosphere at Anfield and other big team's grounds nowadays

"standing areas are instrictly safe"

No reason not to bring them back, with modern health and safety provisions they'd be quality.

Was the grove designed with standing in mind? The lower tiers are very shallow, unlike most other new grounds....

but do the families of Hillsborough victims have a general stance on this??

It just seems that the government's attitude is that standing will NEVER be brought back, so somewhere there must be huge opposition :?

Understand that, but I was directed to some of the threads on this site and could not believe some of the uninformed, highly offensive drivel that was being posted.

Had to come on and say something about it.

Only the current government - aren't the Lib Dems in favour of standing?

Let's see how the government's opinions lie after a recession when clubs like Wigan have less than 10,000 through the door every week.

It's something I'll have to read up on. I've read plenty about the Taylor report, but not much on the obsticles regarding the re-introduction of SAFE standing areas...

Something MOST fans would surely welcome!

standing will never be brought back the mere fact that the cost of removing seating will put clubs off and at Ashburton Grove for instance they would never allow it on the upper level. so for instance at least three to four blocks would need to cleared.

I've visted the Alianz arena in Munich and there is a standing section behind each goal on the lower tier. It reduces ticket prices and is very popular.

Although they are in system where by they have a ground share with Bayern and 1860. Each set of supporters has their own main core section of support. Bayern at one end, 1860 at another. For a Bayern game the seats there will be removed and vice versa.

It is a well organised system and we were told that they can reconfigure the terraces in a matter of hours.

And to answer digger the Allianz arena's lower tier is steeper than the Grove. The Grove's shallowness was probably designed with height restrictions in mind.
