Gilberto going?

Post by daz10_uk »

Ive heard through a semi reliable source that Gilberto will be leaving before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. The guy who told me is a masive gooner with a few connections close to the club so he wasnt trying to wind me up. He didnt say what club he was going too although it is a european club just said he would be leaving.

Im a big fan of Gilberto who i think is very underrated. I hope this isnt true.

Anyone know anything about it?

Its in the press today that he only found out he didn't have the Arsenal captaincy via the Arsenal website!

Was this whole "resting" after CopaAmerica thign a bog cover up that there is a big problem with him and we don't want him near the squad?

on the other hand why make him Vice-captain publicaly on the website if you knew he was going?

Personally I think he gives us great cover at the back but as long as we replace him with someone so our squad is not even thinner I think we have centre mid well covered by the superb Diaby

It would be a real shame losing Gilbertos experience and he's a great role model for the younger players as well. It makes sense letting at least one of our 6 central midfielders go though and Gilberto being the oldest I guess he's be most likely to go in a way.

I think we need to keep some of our older players and Gilberto would be one of the first names id have on the team sheet. I think losing him would be a kick in the teeth

I don;'t think Gilberto will go unleess we buy another holding player, as it is I would keep Gilberto even though he may not be a first team player as youngsters come in, he is the only one at the club who can do his role.

Im very suprised that people dont feel like me about it. Surely he is a 1st teamer? Do you think bringing some unknown from Bastia will replace Gilberto adequately? I know AW has a knack of unearthing unknown talent but i why bring him in when we have a perfectly good holding midfielder in Gilberto? Maybe im the only one but he would be in my 1st team at Arsenal.

Maybe the first thing i posted is true he is very under-rated so people think he wont be missed

i think the number of clear cut chances fulham had on sunday demonstrates why gilberto is key. i can see wenger moving him on next summer, but if he bought from abroad now to replace an outgoing gilberto, he couldn't be sure that a new signing would adapt immediately. gilberto is by no means irreplacable, there are quality holding midfielders out there, but in the current squad he seems pretty unique to me. so please, no sale.

There had to be a reason for not giving him the captaincy because I'm baffled as to why Gallas got it and not him.

Getting shot of Gilberto now would be a big gamble for the season ahead.

Big Big mistake if they get rid of Gilberto. He is experienced, strong and a very intelligent player. Besides taht, we would get f*ck all money for him. He is the only Arsenal player to be able to make 20 fouls per game without getting booked...quality
