Blackburn game - beefing up the midfield

Post by elephant »

Evening all,

With options limited in the centre of mid-field and the fact that we looked a bit lightweight in that area against the big lads Fulham put out on Sunday, what do you reckon to putting Toure into the Gilberto role for the Blackburn game?

He will certainly be able to look after himself and add a bit of beef to the silky skills of the others in the middle of the pitch. On the downside, it would probably mean Senderos filling in for him at the back, but it would certainly give us more strength where we most need it.

I aslo wouldn't be averse to starting with Bentner up front. I know this could be looked as a step in the wrong direction in footballing terms, but for the likes of these Blackburn type games where they like to give the Arsenal lads a good kicking I think it might be the way forward.

best get on home now, enjoy the game tonight.

Same here, but can't argue with the 5.4.1 formation because it seems to work in the champions league :D

Dont like 4-5-1 at home .It can be needed for certain away matches but not if you havent got a strong tackling and hussling centre midfield.

Need to put Diaby in instead of Flamini

Why? I feel Flamini can cope. He did well tonight and will do well on Saturday.

I know he'll start as Wenger has a 'thing' for him

Given Toure's surging runs and hunger to have a go at goal, I imagine he would not do too badly as a holding mid-fielder and will certainly bring some steel into that position ... but I doubt AW will do something like elephant suggests unless he is forced into it by an injury crisis ...

As to flamini playing that role, I am comfortable with that .. I think he is improving with every game ... he just needs to be more disciplined

Yes I can't see Wenger going 4-4-2 unless we go behind. But RVP just doesn't seem comfortable alone up front.

I don't think Flamini has the discipline or the finesse to be in our midfield. Frankly he was lucky not to get sent off last night the way that ref was and I lost count of the amount of times that moves broke down because he couldn't spot the pass quick enough or turned back to our goal, we were trying to break down a tough team so you need quick passes, you could see moves building up and when the ball got to him peoples heads dropped because they knew he wouldn't give them that magical pass.

He was useful at sheilding the defence I'll give him that but against those slouches I don't think we needed it, and I def don't think we need it at home

it sounds like a good idea. and i think it would work. but i do think that wenger wants toure and gallas partnering each other as much as possible. he obviously sees something in that partnership and will want them to get to know eachother as much as possible.

I would go 4-4-2.I would drop Rosicky and play Bendtner up front with RVP.As has been said ealier RVP doesn"t seem happy upfront on his own.Any chance of Eduardo being fit?

Not sure about playing RVP up top on his own,I think he's better with a partner. As for a bit of steel in midfield why not give Diaby a go, the boys going to be a star....... 8) 8)

Diaby is out injured. Toure would be an intresting choice and could well work, our defence will need help against Blackburn's attack, Toure can get stuck in but as has been said, don't see it happening.
