Bid rejected for Arse Shaving

Post by nig1903 »

Arsenal have had a £10m bid for Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin rejected by the Russian club.

Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov said: "I can confirm that Zenit did get an official offer from Arsenal about Andrei Arshavin. It was rejected as insufficient. They offered about £10 million.

"No new offers have arrived from them since. At the moment, Arsenal are the only club to have approached us about the player."

At least we've made a bid.

It's something.

Guess we'll go to about £12m.

Just hope Man City don't start showing an interest. They'd pay double.

18m for another attacking player, who until the past 2 years had done fuck all. And Russians do so well in the PL too don't they ?

The Zenit spokesman said that no other clubs had made offers. It would be in their best interests to say they had other offers. Start a bidding war.

So I reckon I'll believe the Zenit guy. Not a tabloid sports journo. :)

 Yea i wouldn't take much notice of anything i read at the moment, most of it's just lazy journalism, making shit up that sounds like it could be true to fill space.
I don't want to sound paranoid or negative but i am beginning to think that all this Arshavin talk is just a ruse from the club to kid us on that they are attempting to buy quality players, no doubt we shall keep on offering way below the asking price and then either someone will put in a real bid to gazump us or Zenit won't accept the derisory offer we are making, either way AW can claim he made an effort to buy quality and it wasn't his fault it didn't come off but in reality we are probably making little serious effort to sign Arshavin, unless Zenit are stupid enough to let him go for peanuts which is unlikely, i'm all for bartering to keep the price down but offering half the asking price for me is not a serious effort to sign someone, your just encouraging others to offer more because you are making him look like a bargain. Don't be surprised if come the end of the month after all the supposed effort we have put in to signing real quality it will turn out a repeat of the summer and we'll end up with a last minute Sylvestre type signing. :banghead: :banghead:

£10m is about as high as I'd rate Arshavin. I'd rather we spent the money a bit wiser on areas of the team where we really had gaps. It may seem like we need Arshavin, but only until Fabregas returns.

Yes, he will be in Wenger's "we came so close" group along with Cristiano Ronaldo. By the way, didn't AW also turn Palacios away. I thought he was fantastic for Wigan today and every time I've seen him this year - still obviously not as good as Denilson, Eboue and co.
