A message to all Gooners travelling to Blackburn on Sunday

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

A message to all Gooners travelling to Blackburn on Sunday

Post by mike »

On the subject of improving the atmosphere, it was suggested on this forum over the summer that certain areas of Ashburton Grove should be all standing. I pointed out at the time that this was near on impossible at home games due to heavy handed stewarding and a more family orientated clientele.

It was suggested that standing was a great Idea for away games (less of you) and that an effort should be made to encourage this into our away trips this season.

So here we are, a couple of days before our first away fixture in the premiership and Im asking all travelling Gooners to Stand Up For The Arsenal!!

Anyone who was at Fulham, Chelsea, Man Utd, Spurs, Villa, Liverpool last year will know that just from everyone standing for the full 90 minutes the atmosphere that was generated was a lot lot better. I know its hard to believe, but it’s true! Standing = more noise generated, It really is as simple as that, and you never know, It may even put a stop to the tedious stand up if you hate Trottenham chant going round every 5 minutes!

I expect the atmosphere to be quite good in our end on Sunday as the first premiership away game of a new season is always pretty lively, but Id ask everyone that’s travelling to make the extra effort especially as Sundays game is one that we’ve notoriously found quite hard.

Even this early on, I genuinely believe that IF we can win on Sunday, it could be a huge one in our season, so play your part!

STAND UP FOR THE ARSENAL, take the roof off the Darwen End (not literally) and roar the boys on to their first away win of the Season!

See you in The Fernhurst before hand for a few large ones!

Frank
(For those of you that are confused, Im using me mates account!!)

Im sorry Mike but i dont agree with Standing if there are people behind who are smaller or kids its not on they pay the same money as you and me and they should get to have the same view as you and I!

And I know I'm not alone on my sentiments

couldnt agree more mate, Liverpool away in the fa cup last year was fantastic, stood for 90 mins, sang for 90 mins, would love it to happen every away game but doubt it will, all it takes is a few people at the front to have the bollox not to sit down at kick off and everyone behind will follow suit, you might get a few whingers but fuck em!! see it through and its better for the team.

I was at Utd & Liverpool (in the prem :( ) & i thought that the standing did make a huge difference, i won't be going to the game but it would be nice for those going to make an effot & fans like me watching it on MOTD to be able to hear the Gooners all sing
COME ON YOU GUNNERS

Fair point about the kids and the JG's coach. I wouldn't want to block a young arsenal fans view, but unfortunatly if everyone sits down the atmosphere will be poor. Just feel if we sit there like dummies and don't make a racket, we're partly to blame if we don't get the right result. Was just a thought anyway. Just felt like we'd maybe need a little bit extra from the travelling support on sunday. Hopefully we'll still get a result.

I don't tend to notice much
Let the standing be for another game like Tottenham where no kids includeing myself ain't allowed to go to, Mike/Frank you can see that the JG are on a trip & please don't spoil it by encouraging standing
Standing as it may improve the sound but try for once to sit in the seat you bought & sing, it may not be the same but it's not the 80's anymore with the North Bank isit exactly

i see all your points about not standing for the little kids but wen i was smaller their wasnt a better feeling than standing up at away game singing with everyone. you dont have to stand up for the whole game but the atmosphere is alot better when we all stand up
