Pubs in Cardiff

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I think on this occasion It would be wise to avoid the pubs pre match....I've read that ALL pubs round there on match day are no go areas for away fans. Think our plan is to just get in the ground early....I don't know weather they'll be selling alcohol in the ground.....

A few of us are going up on the saturday and staying over.....Anybody else doing this?

i am intending staying as annoymous as possible don't really want to hang out in a Cardiff pub with 30 or 40 other gooners - i want to get off my bus watch the game have a chat inside the ground and go home - hopefully with a win and a smile

sounds like it should be an interestin day tho! the lansdown hotel has been reccommended on a few websites as friendly (well as friendly as u can get in cardiff) where away fans are welcome if anyone is goin to the pub!.

I can't make the match this weekend, but I use to live in Cardiff & spent two seasons watching them at Ninian Park.

My advice is:

Don't drink near the ground, aside from the fact there aren't many pubs, its not worth the hassle;

Drinking in town before or after can be dodgy, especially near the train station. Avoid like the plague the Owen Glendower near Queen Street;

However, the students are back in town! So there are a few places you'll be fine in. For an evening, The Welsh Club (Clwb Ifor Bach) is the nuts (it's a club) anywhere round Cathays (the student area) should be absolutely fine. Flora use to be good; The Woddville is alright; the student union is a possibility if you can get past security. But the problem with all of these places are a 15/20 minute walk to Cardiff central.

Have a great time.

C'mon the reds!

Why are you going then if all you are doing is getting to the ground asap, what about sampling the atmosphere, pubs etc?

excactly, caridff are suppose to have there little toe-rags, but with all gooners together somewhere (a pub where away fans are welcome ideally) then everything should be fine, from what ive heard there "firm" for want of a better word, pick on vonrable individuals, not an entire pack of people.

im lookin forward to the atmosphere! one of the main reason for goin to this one!

Is it walking distance from the city centre to ninian park? Get the train into Cardiff central for about 10.45 then planning on getting a fry up and hitting a gooner packed pub somewhere in the centre and walking to the ground???

It's about a mile from the Railway Station - it's just one long road - just go down Ninian Park Road
