He's coming to Vancouver for a friendly game with my home team, the Vancouver Whitecaps. I haven't decided if I'm going to it yet or not but I don't agree with the posters that say he's hyped and over-rated.
His arrival may be hyped and over-rated but as a player I think he's a really good player -- not the best ever, just really good. He's not an out and out striker so you shouldn't expect him to be a goal poacher but as a midfielder he is/was (depending on what you think) a great passer and set up player which is what you need from your midfield.
As for the MLS and it being at par with the European leagues -- I don't buy it. There is no other player that can bring that kind of attention to that sport in today's game. You can't possibly think they'd care if Cesc, Deco or Ronaldinho came to the MLS.

Hey I think Ronaldinho could generate as much publicity as Beckham, and he'd be better on the pitch too.
But yeah, if marketed right, the pulic can be excited over quite a lot of players, all of whom are at differing skill levels. I mean, Sydney was excited by the prospect of Dwight Yorke, yet he moved to Sunderland and he didn't make quite the entrance he did here I'm sure!
