A concern about our defence !!!

A concern about our defence !!!

Post by gunners-need-steel »

I just watched the extended high-lights of the match against sparta ... and contrary to what has been suggested in previous threads about the match, it was not a stroll in the park.

Our defence appeared wobbly and uncertain .. and we could easily have conceded several soft goals. Seems the biggest problem is aerial defence.

I am really alarmed about this, as we know prem-league has a lot of physical and direct teams .. if we cannot defend aerially, then we will concede a lot of needless goals ... I still think AW should be loking to bolster central defence, but I suspect this is a pipe deam that will never happen ...

Am I alone in this concern ... :( :?

Youre not alone but AW doesnt seem to worry about it. I must admit i cant think who we should get but surely one of our many national or international scouts can find someone that fits the bill

Clichy seemed to be a little worrying at the back but overall, we did well enough. First 55 minutes we didn't get going, didn't allow ourselves to be bullied at least but from then we just clicked and outplayed them till we scored then for some reason, we sat back and defended. If not for Lehman, we may well have conceded but thought the defence on the whole did well.

seems u watched the entire match, so you are probably correct .. but I tell u, I was alarmed from what the extended high-lights showed ... the defese did not bestow any feelings of confidence in me ...

hope they settle down very quickly and do a much better job, or we are in for another lousy season of letting awful teams draw or beat us with cheap/soft goals ..

Hopefully the more this back four play together the more solid they will become. Us Gooners know more than anyone else the defence is much moree about the unit than individuals

We were giving away a few too many chances in the first half but the first-choice defence is starting to take shape I think..
