I'm inclined to agree to a certain extent. But I think Reyes refused to/was unable to adapt due to his lack of intellect, just as much as Henry didn't like him. The guy still didn't speak a word of English when he left which, to me, is indicative of a guy who didn't want to be in England full-stop.
Last I checked, he isn't excelling in he Spanish league, is he? No, don't think it would changed anything if Heanry was "nice" to him...

What about the rest of the clubs he's been at since Augie he's hardly set the world on fire has he??? and I've seen interviews with him and he came across not as a man but as a little gypsy boy which I suppose is hardly surprising seeing as that's what he is, but seriously he honestly did come across as a mummy's boy

I agree to a point about the intelligence thing but how much spanish did beckham have after his few years in spain ? I aint being funny but the guy struggles with english at times, is far from a leading contender for mastermind and yet settled well and contributed positively to madrid and their football. Fcuk knows how he will get on learning italian

That's because he plays for Benfica.

agree with u augie 2 a certian extent. reyes and henry def did not c eye 2 eye. reyes on his day, was as skillful as henry, if not more so, but he didnt have the consistancy. another thing that was missing was, during the winter months, reyes was just a shadow, that didnt want 2 knoe. he was a fair weather player, well considering where he came from u can understand that.

I did say "Last I checked" and he was still in La Liga... :)

But seriously, who the hell did he end up at Benfica??? and he hasn't delivered since the early promise he had shown...

Given that Wenger told Sky there would be a statement tonight, would it not hurt to let us know exactly what is going on and whether or not they are confident of the deal going through.

I largely agree with the Club staying silent of transfers, but in the circumstances a little communication wouldn't go amiss.

History is littered with stories of players who have failed to bounce back after an unhappy spell in a club and it is hard to explain why but I do not believe that it is fair to make a sweeping assumption that players in these cases didnt have the qualities to become top players though. In reyes case he went to athletico madrid who are far from a happy ship and have been itching to sack their manager for the last 18 months or so

Jesus some of that is amazing.

Scores a lot of goals from outside the box though like Nasri did. Needs to learn to pass when a shot is on :D

Augie I couldnt agree more. Will always maintain that Reyes had the necessary technical ability to become the best player in the world.

When Ronaldo got kicked at 20/21 years old he got up & beat the man the next time. Unfortunately Reyes went missing after Nevilles GBH on him at OT in 04/05. Real shame

ANDREI ARSHAVIN finally completed his £15million move to Arsenal last night after hiring his own plane to beat the British winter.

Exactly Nice Guy, nobody's doubting his technical ability but as most players by and large have the same physical attributes it's pretty obvious that sport is 90% between the ears, what makes people winners is mental strength!

If Reyes had such talent why did he fail after he left us ?
No he wasnt in the Pires or Overmars bracket, another physically weak player who didnt want it enough
