Attacking midfielder surplus suggests CESC summer sale?
I did a post two weeks ago called Arshavin In = Cesc Out?
The thought is still very much in my mind, that we have spent so much on Arshavin in case Cesc goes to Barcelona this summer.
Not impossible, as some doubt he will want to play outside the Champions League.
In which case Nasri will likely play in the middle.
It is also possible that Rosicky might retire, or be sold when he reaches a semblance of fitness.
Next season we will have a lot of attacking midfielders/second strikers.
Not all on the list can play as second striker, some are central some are wide, but all can play in an offensive role in midfield.
Someone will surely leave?
Here is the list.
Cesc
Nasri
Rosicky
Arshavin
Walcott (either wing or up front)
Simpson (right wing or up front)
Traore (left wing or full back)
Diaby
Wilshere
Ramsey
Denilson (more of an all round midfielder than attacking, but can play an attacking role from midfield)
Gibbs (usually left back but can play left midfield)
Eboue (right full back or right midfield)
Vela (left wing or up front)
Then there are the youngsters who might push for places
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
Rui Fonte
Fran Merida
Barazite
Botelho (left back who can play left midfield)

I posted before we were positively linked with Arshavin, suggesting the same thing, hope i'm wrong, but fear i'm right.QuartzGooner wrote:I did a post two weeks ago called Arshavin In = Cesc Out?

Exactly Cesc signing a 7 year deal guarantees us a big pay out when he leaves. He will be gone within 2 years but making him captain might mean he stays next season. Its gonna be a long summer with the back pages of the papers for us goonersREBEL GOONER wrote:i got the feeling when fab signed his new contract that it was to give arsenal a fee when he left rather then walk away for nothing, maybe not this summer but i do believe he will be gone the following summer

..oh and I think he'll stay for 1 more year if we finsih 5th because he loves the club and respects the manager so wouldn't jump out of a sinking ship so to speak.

Can't see Cesc going until he's 25 - 26 unless the club decide they don't need him any more, then he'll be off to Barca to finish his playing days there, i'd be surprised if he hadn't already mapped out his future and knows at what age he will be moving on i don't think how successful the club are will play a part in that decision.
The signing of Arsh covers many different scenarios, Rosicky not being able to play again, Ade being sold in the summer, Rvp or theo going in the summer all these i think are far more likely than Cesc leaving, thats why he is a good player to sign because he can fill a few different roles.
Just a pity the areas that really needed attending to weren't already sorted if they were we would be in seriously good shape now.
