It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Wild cat Strikes at Total Oil Refinery

Post by Cus Geezer »

Surprised no-one's mentioned it.

This is the official line of Unite, the Union behind the strike.

The reasons for the strike revolve around the exclusion of British workers apply for these new jobs, yet look at state owned broadcaster the BBC's stance on this story. It solely looks to project it as being xenophobic and anti-European

The BNP have looked at this as an open goal and play on the 'British jobs for British workers' angle and looking to steal the thunder of the unions on this one.

Ditto UKIP

We are in the EU.

Tough for BNP and UKIP.

But of course all jobs in the EU are open to all EU workers (except the A8 countries of 2004 who don't get this until 2011)

British people were barred from applying for the jobs, this was the original context of the strike. BNP, UKIP and the British media have managed to wangle this towards xenophobia and chauvanism for their vested interests.
