Flags for the Cardiff match

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

[quote="Its Up 4 Grabs Now"]If we’re gonna say only the St George & Union Jack flags should be allowed because Arsenal are a English/British club etc etc then surely the U.J. shouldn’t be included cos in football terms Arsenal are an English club, not British. F*ck it we’re a London club so we should ban all flags of supporters’ clubs that have “[insert sh*t English city/town other than London here] Goonersâ€

The flag issue gets on my wires too. Symptomatic of the "sit down and shut up while we empty out your wallet" attitude all too prevalent in modern football.

That said, much as I think some stewards are complete plums twatting them isn't the answer. Mass disobedience of stupid rules is.

I find this thread very interesting as you can now see how the Club has reached its decision. You cant please everyone.

So many different opinions on what should be brought in & what shouldnt. To me, I think we are victims of being in British Society. So many countries are proud of their flag (look at America) but a St George's flag or Union Jack is linked to the BNP, wrongly. So bringing an English or British flag would signal a Political stance, even though its not. You arent allowed to be proud anymore, you might upset someone.

Look at our Saints. We celebrate Paddys Day like Christmas but I'll bet you 60% of Brits dont know when St Georges day is let alone celebrate it. Were obsessed with not offending people in this country. Allowing only domestic based flags would signal that we are being offensive to other nations. Allowing all flags would end up upsetting one of the nations who have strained relations with said country. You cant win.

I actually dont have a problem with Arsenal saying no flags. I go to watch Arsenal FC compete in Leagues & Cups, it has nothing to do with bringing my countries flag. I dont take a flag to the cinema so why take one to football?

Club statement - National flags at Emirates Stadium

Some of our fans have been upset with the flying of certain flags denoting particular regions of the world

Arsenal as a club prides itself on being inclusive with respect to all nationalities, cultural and ethnic groups.

We have therefore decided that in order for all of our fans to enjoy their experience at Emirates Stadium, we are asking that only flags in support of Arsenal Football Club, without any national emblems, are displayed within the stadium.

We will be implementing this policy with immediate effect. Thank you for your assistance in this matter."

******
"Stadium: General Queries

Flags
National flags are not allowed into the Stadium. Flags can be no bigger than 1metre square and they must not be attached to a thick pole, the pole can be no thicker than a pencil."

Stadium management confirmed that this has not changed today.

What annoys me was there were shit loads of Brazil and Italian flags and thats was ok and also there were thousands of people standing up too virtually all of the game and yet thats ok but when its Arsenal playing then the rules seem to change
