Do Arsenal have a goalkeeping crisis? (22/8)

Usual thread starter… There’s no denying Jens has already made some outstanding saves this season. But it’s the simple stuff which seems to be catching him out. Is his mind elsewhere? Maybe he is operating on instinct and when he actually has to think about something he’s getting confused. Happens to the best of us once we get past 35, take it from one who knows! :(

Jeez, we're talking about Almunia being a 'stop-gap' until Fabianski may be ready!! This is the Arsenal we are talking about, not bloody Charlton!! Lehmann costs us a handful of points every year, points that could make a very big difference, particularly this year. Time after time Wenger makes his bargain bucket buys and we are left lagging further behind - the points totals don't lie! We've spent around 21m on, well, not a lot as yet. Sagna looks ok but Eduardo's only been here 5 mins and is inured already - great, another crock, just what we need. With 21m we could have signed a top top quality player.
I've been a season ticket holder since 1980 but am getting seriously fed up with the lack of recognition of how far behind we are. We let Djourou go out on loan when we hardly have any CB's at the club and Kolo goes to the African nations this season! Senderos is a pub player at times and is NOT the answer! A tiny part of me almost hopes that we don't qualify for the CL this season.....because it may be what's needed for our management and board to put their money where there mouth is.........new stadium.....competing for the worlds best?? My arse!
Our squad is hanging by a thread, if Van Persie and Kolo are out for any length of time we are fooked, that's how sad it is.

Dudu has missed two game this season due to a slight knock, every player gets an injury, to call him a crock is a bit harsh, also Dojorou will be back for the Africa Cup of Nation.. You just seem to want to find flaws, if we lose Kolo for a long time then Gallas and Senderos (you know, the 0 goals conceded during world cup and part of Arsenal's CL record, he must be rubbish) can take care of it, if we lose RVP then yes it is a blow but if any team loses their main scorer they will be knocked back.

Jens won't last forever, or beyond this season for us, but I don't think his errors so far this season have been due to having to think too much due to age, more caught in two minds first time (not the first time he has made errors with ball at the feet) and a bizarre error for the second, I doubt we will see him do that for the rest of his Arsenal career.

What if Gallas picks up another injury while Kolo is away? Do we resort to playing full-backs in the middle?

And as for 'any team would miss their main scorer' argument - the difference is Chelsea have the choice of Shevchenko, Pizzaro or Kalou as an alternative to Drogba; Liverpool can play Crouch, Kuyte, or that Russian bloke in place of Torres; Man Utd can play Tevez, Ole or Saha in place of Rooney with Giggs as another option; even the spuds have more experience and better options up front than we do with Berbatov, Keane, Bent and Defoe.

Remember we also lose Ade for a few weeks during January and February, leaving us even more depleted up front!!

Magic Hat, it seems as though you feel relaxed about that situation but, like someone else has already said - that might be good enough for the likes of Charlton (remember, so was Song!), but it's not good enough for The Arsenal - especially if we're serious about challenging for trophies!! :x

If Gallas gets injured while Toure is away, Djorou goes in alongside Sendros, the two both have potential. If we need to then yes, we will have to use versatile players to cover during an injury crises.

As for strikers, Scvhenko is very good if he adapts (Silva), Pizarro is a target man whose best record is 19 in a season (superior version of Ade), and Kalou is talented but far from the finished article (take your pick). Liverpool's Torres is not a scorer, neither is Crouch or Kuyt (they are Ade's of varying skills) and Vornion has a record of one good season then playing badly, Man U's cover Tevez is very good but Saha and Ole Gunner are nearly always injured while Giggs is better but older version of Hleb in that role. Berbs is their Van Persie, Keane is skillful but inconsistent, Bent is just pure pace with a decent finish while Defoe is inferior version of Silva.

I give it a month before I'm saying how bad we are :P

Yep, words again taken away from me
I was shiteing myself at the end with KS as he is turning out like his Dad (who i saw after the game, pitty i yet again didn't have a marker depsite him being called Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer by me lol)
But Alummia had a good game at was keeping the shots away & it's a good clean sheet to have & a good win to send Sven home with the hump as it was always gonna be a tight game
Come on you reds

Glad this thread is back to the point. I too thought Almunia had a sound game yesterday and could now be given a 3-4 match spell whilst Jens recovers his balance/eyesight/sanity/insanity or whatever is currently troubling him. I wouldn't be too adverse if Arsenal put in a bid for young Casper, though. His all-round game looks very sound, and that last minute header would have been sensational (for City) - but why didn't Manuel have a punt at thier goal? Would have been great for his confidence had it gone in.
