Don't care if he wears pink gloves and does ballet when the balls in the other end of the pitch as long as he doesn't concede.

He done well with crosses into the 6 yard box today when he was under pressure as well and I will give him that but why o why did he feel the need to punch twice in the first half from shots he should have caught ?

He is not better than any of the keepers who play for the teams above us and another half dozen keepers in the premiership.With Almunia we are settling for 2nd best

I'll say it again. He's a good keeper but he's not good enough for an alleged top four team.
He's getting better as his confidence is growing. Who knows, he might just become good enough in time.
I'm still in favour of getting somebody better but at the moment he is doing a decent enough job. He hasn't actually cost us any points/results that I can recall this season. Can anyone tell me otherwise?

The first Spurs game, beaten from 40 yards and then palms shot out but at the time his confidence was collapsing and he had a bad run. I still think our defence needs someone who comes for crosses more but Almunia still has rest of season, if he can produce the goods in the big games coming up then he may just do enough to deserve another shot.

Okay, you highlighted a mistake but it didn't cost us points did it. Surely if anyone cost us that night it was Clichy falling over his own arse in the last 5 minutes and our entire defence finishing the game early, not Almunia.

My problem with Almunia is not that he makes howlers Gomes style but that he doesnt win you many points/games having said that his fingertip save last night "won" us that game and was a top quality save but generally he is average at best

We conceded 2 goals due to his errors, without that we would have won 4-2 or even more as Spurs would have been out of it before then.

The whole "he doesn't win us games/points" argument is simply untrue. He's made several world class saves this season that saved us points/won us games.

Just a few that I can remember off the top of my head:

- yesterdays first half save was outstanding and only fuck knows how the game would have gone otherwise
- his last minute save against Modric saved us a point
- a brilliant save against Wigan (I believe it was from a header from Melchiott) allowed us to go on and win the game
- several really good saves and coming off the line at the exact right moment against West Ham away, including an outstanding save in a one on one against Bellamy enabled us to go on and win the game

There were plenty more this season. And the only really poor game he's had was against Spurs at home.

Please point out keepers to me that made fewer mistakes this season and won his team more points. Cech, Reina and Van der Sar certainly didn't. Friedel may have. Other than that I can't think of anyone who has.

Let me just add that I really didn't like Almunia in the beginning, not even when he got to be our first choice keeper last season. But he's completely changed my opinion of him this season with his performances, he actually genuinely looks like a top class keeper that can be relied upon now. And every keeper will make a few mistakes over the course of the season - Seaman did, Lehmann did, Schmeichel did etc. I'm not saying he's in the same class as them, but he's easily good enough compared to the current crop of top club keepers in the Premiership.

You make some good points there Had. but dont agree with him being top class i think he is average at best
