Kalou rejected Arsenal transfer in January 2014

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Kalou rejected Arsenal transfer in January 2014

Post by Mikegooner87i »

[I have merged the six existing Kalou threads, because I think it is quite interesting to go back and look at the comments about this much-linked player (in a Trainspotterish kind of way).

These include the infamous "Babatunde" Kalou thread, when the Forum went berzerk at the mere thought of Kalou joining :D
Below is the Opening Paragraph of the latest thread, just in case anyone opens this on page one.- Quartz]

Kalou rejected the chance to join Arsenal in January

by Red Gunner on Sun Mar 23, 2014 5:52 pm

"The former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou has revealed that he turned down the chance to join Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Kalou, who now plays for the Ligue 1 side Lille, said he was approached about a last-minute loan deal at the end of the transfer window. However he said he rejected Arsène Wenger's approach in order to help his club qualify for Europe.

"A possible departure?" Kalou told L'Equipe. "Yes, to Arsenal. It could have been done as a last minute loan. But I want to finish third, prepare for the World Cup Stadium and go to the Stade de France to compete in the final of the Coupe de France."

The Ivory Coast striker has confirmed, however, that he will leave Lille in the summer and he has previously expressed an interest in returning to the Premier League, to add to his six seasons at Chelsea from 2006 to 2012. He has been in good form in France, scoring 24 league goals in 57 appearances for Lille."

And from 2009 -

SALOMON KALOU has stunned Chelsea by admitting he would love to play for bitter rivals Arsenal.

Ivory Coast star Kalou revealed he is a huge admirer of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

And he says he will consider leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The confession will come as a huge blow to new Blues boss Guus Hiddink.

The Russian, who is already without England midfielder Joe Cole, has started Kalou in his first two matches in charge.

But his place in the side could be in doubt after this shock outburst.

Kalou, 23, said: “Wenger said he thought of signing me? That’s an honour for me, an honour.

“Because he is a very great coach and I know that every single player in the world dreams of playing for him.

“I have a lot of respect for him, he is one of the best coaches in the world so why not?

“I am still under contract with Chelsea but of course I have plenty of friends who play for Arsenal in Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue and Emmanuel Adebayor.

“They are achieving huge things at Arsenal and watching them play is just beautiful."

Kalou has seen his chances limited at Chelsea in the past.

And he added: “You are never guaranteed to be in the Chelsea starting XI.

"Every single player fights to earn his place, including me, and the coach is the one that has the final word.

“At the present time I’m happy at Chelsea and I hope that the things that I want to happen will happen.

"I will think of my future once the season is over."

Not for me thanks. i've never rated him and this comment,

“You are never guaranteed to be in the Chelsea starting XI.
Every single player fights to earn his place, including me, and the coach is the one that has the final word. "

speaks volumes to me. Is someone looking for an easy ride?????

Better than Bendtner, but not quite what we need, not clinical enough.
